Beginners bow... - 10/17/14 02:52 PM

I have been hunting all my life, I'm 29 soon to be 30 in January, and have never shot a bow. I've hunted just about every way imaginable except a bow.

I don't know where to start. I've been looking at the Hoyt Ignite, seems like a good entry bow to me. But what say you ? Also have more questions. Draw weight(I have a repaired shoulder)? Let off? Thanks for he help

Go somewhere they will setup several bows for you to try out. A compound bow is setup to the shooter, draw length poundage sight height... These days there are not many bad bows, the competition is too strong for a bad bow to make it.

With a repaired shoulder go with a smooth drawing/shooting bow. That will not generally be the fastest bow but will be much more comfortable. Try several and let the bow pick you.

Letoff these days most are 75 or 80% letoff. If interested in entering a kill in P&Y go with 75% since I think that is the max letoff they allow.

Find a used Bear for cheap. Or Matthews Dranaline. Super quiet, smooth draw, easy to tune. Take it to your local bow shop (not bass pro/cabelas) and have them crank it all the way down to 60lbs, add new cables and string with string loop, tru-glow 3 pin sight, and whisker biscuit rest (cheap and effective). Grab an inexpensive release aide from academy. Then, if you are going to stick with it, id recommend a new Matthews or Hoyt.

Good luck!
