too late to put up a new tree stand?

too late to put up a new tree stand? - 10/06/14 05:25 AM

So we've been hunting our new lease the past couple of weeks and have learned a little bit more about where the bedding areas are, especially for the does. During the summer we couldn't make it out early in the morning, that played a part too.

So now that I know more about where they are and how they travel, I want to put up my second tree stand, maybe for bow season but maybe for the rut in a pinch point or trail. Near the feeders but not directly hunting them.

My question is, if I put it up now, is it going to mess up that weekend of bow season? Was thinking it would be something to do between the AM and evening hunt. I know it's not ideal to put it up this late, but it is what it is...

The other thing I guess I could do instead is a ground blind (not a pop up) and be a little more mobile.

What's y'alls advice?

I put up a new ladder stand on Friday afternoon, had to use chain saw and we made a lot of noise. We finished up around 2PM. We were prepping for an all night hog hunt so I wasn't too worried if we spooked the deer for the weekend. Low and behold, the deer activity was normal. Your place may be different, but I say do what you have to do and have fun.

That's how I took my first bow deer. I was hunting a new property and had a chance to see where the deer were moving. I hung a new stand in the middle of the day and shot a deer the next morning.

I don't think it will effect them too bad and wouldn't worry about it, especially if you plan on hunting it for the rut. Nothing wrong with moving around a bit to get in a better position. Good luck up

They shouldn't see the tree stand anyway; put it up.

Hang it. If u can contain UR sweating and scent left behind. Spray liberally with scent killer and a cover scent coon or fox if u plan on hunting it soon. I just shot an 8 pnt out of a week old stand

We jumped a 19" 8pt buck in 2007 driving into a brushy area to put up a tripod. I killed him out of it the next morning (and saw 8 other deer).

My brother and I were in the process of putting out a box blind made if painted sheet metal. As we rolled it over and over to position it where we wanted out came four doe to check our progress. Little brother made his first kill at 60 yards standing next to the blind while I sipped sweet tea from a whataburger cup. Not sure all the stuff we think matter really do...

X2

People way over think things

We were burning brush one time and had a 3 year old 8 point walk from over 100 yards right up to the blazing brush pile to check it out. Stayed their for almost 5 min. Another time we were shredding and had a large axis buck stay in the grass less than 10' from the shredder and never moved

A several seasons ago I had 9 guys in a 20 acre pivot field shooting doves and had a doe jump into the field and walk all the way across never breaking into even a trot while all of us were blasting away

Man those south Texas deer can be dumb. Trust me it's not like that everywhere else. I had deer eating acorns in a asphalt motel parking lot next to my truck that I had to shoo away when I was doing a job in San Antonio by the airport.

Never too late! Just try and be as quiet as possible and don't stink the place up. Let it test a while after hanging it if you can.

Shoot we move ladders, lock ons, tri pods and climbers all the time.
