Advice from the experts.

I am new to bowhunting. Always been a rifle guy but this year i decided i wanted to try to challenge myself more. SO i bought a mathews switchback compound bow from Bassguy (great guy to deal with just FYI). The pins on the sight that is mounted on there are set at 20 for the top pin and 30 for the middle pin and the 3rd pin is not sighted in. SO i spent a good bit of time shooting it this weekend at the target and my form is good. I have shot bows numerous times before just never hunted with them as they were always someone elses and was pretty good shot. My question is this the top pin set at 20 i measured out 20 yards with a 100 yard tape and set a stake at 20 from the target. When i shot at 20 i was always about 4-5 inches high. GOod line left to right but always high on every shot. SO how do i go about readjusting the pin for where i need it to shoot. I know how to move the pin but is sighting the pins in just a trail and error type thing. Do i need to move the pin itself higher in the sight or lower to drop my arrow down. Thanks for any pointers or advice.

Follow the arrow... if your shooting high you want to move the pin up. Shooting low move it down. It could have been sighted in just fine for him but could be off for you.

Remember your face position while your shooting. as in how your looking down the peep... still see a good bit of people use "kissers" for that reason..

"If" the bow has already been correctly tuned,if you want the arrow to go right move pin to the left and if you want to make the impact lower raise the pin. Since it is a used bow it needs to be checked for your draw length and if it has a peep site that needs to be checked as well as far as placement.

Problem is that, has it been correctly tuned? The arrow rest may need to be moved l to r and t to b to correctly have the bow tuned or your "D" loop may need to be moved. Shoot a broad head and then shoot a field point and see how close they hit at the place you are aiming.

This is just a starting point and really need to start from the beginning to make sure the bow is ok and not need of any repair, Then it needs to be checked for proper draw length to fit you. Then it needs to be tuned. You also need to make sure you have the proper length of arrows and they have the correct spline.

If in doubt, take it to a "good" bow shop and start from scratch.

Ok now another question to back that up. Anybody know of a "good" bow shop in the houston area?
