Will shoot a doe opening weekend of bow season? I will

Re: How many - 09/15/14 08:37 AM

Can't afford to on our Oklahoma place. Buck to doe ratio is too high. Have sights set on a couple big, mature deer and 2-3 cull bucks. Nothing wrong with shooting a doe on opening morning. If it puts a smile on your face and fills the freezer, best of luck to you!

If one gives me a perfect shot, I'll take it. I usually have a shot at a doe almost every weekend so I like to pick a mature doe and a perfect shot before I tap the release.

Depends on the size of the doe. A real young skinny one, might pass it up.

Congrats up

My opening weekend will be in Kansas. Don't think that I will be shooting a doe unless I get trigger happy and just can't resist...so I might shoot one. Depends on cameras, activity, wind, etc...who knows. I am just ready to hunt banana

I will late usually if one comes out later in the morning.

Not sure yet. I sure don't need any more meat in my freezer, I still have quite a bit from last year.

I will as long as she doesn't have fawns with her. I will never make that mistake again.

I don't shoot does where I hunt. Population is too low.

Re: How many - 09/16/14 10:47 PM

Last year at my place the other hunters said the bucks disappear after archery season. I'm gonna try for a buck first then a buck or a doe. Either way it would be my first, I'm a late starter.

Re: How many - 09/16/14 11:54 PM

Nope. Not that I have anything against that. But opening day I will be fishing and I can take guests to the lease. I have a crossbow ready for my nephew and my sons to take does with if they find the time. If not I will take them later in the season. We need to thin a few on our place.

Any deer you kill with a bow is an accomplishment in my opinion. Save the hide for various projects.

Our fawns usually fall late, almost all of them still have spots and are nursing in beginning of bow season. Last year I let them walk because of that...forgot about that.

i'm with the group that if she doesn't have a fawn she goes! hoping for the longhorn spike or weird 3 point we have on camera

Re: How many - 09/17/14 05:08 PM

Whats wrong with shooting one with a fawn?? They are plenty old enough to take care of themselves..

Also the meat is a whole lot better than any old mature trophy buck. I have never been a trophy buck hunter in my 50 years of hunting! Oh, I'll take one but I don't have the ego that I have to kill a giant buck, besides I can't eat the horns. All big horns I've ever taken end on as knife handles anyway.

Yes or a pig! Going old school with a Sage recurve and Magnus 2 blade.
