Crawl with your Bow?

How do you crawl with you bow?

On my recent trip to Australia I had to crawl through the grass on several occasions trying to get within bow range of a Java Rusa Stag. I tried several ways but always ended up crawling on my hands and knees, moving my bow ahead with one hand, then crawling a few paces, reaching back and moving my bow ahead, crawling a few paces, rinse and repeat a few hundred times.

What ways have you tried and what do you think works best? Anyone tried a sling or some other contraption to hold your bow while you crawl?

It would have to be one special hunt for me to be crawling, I'm afraid if I crawled I wouldn't be able to get back up to shoot.

On your belly you hold the bow with your hands under the limbs, string to your body cradling it. Hands and knees not so easy. It's a one hand operation to hold the bow. One hand on the ground. You crawl up to your hand one knee then the other then move the hand. It's slow and awkward.

Remember crab crawls in football? This way works great, you sit your bow on your lap and crab crawl and then when you have to stop you can shoot sitting down with minimum movement.

If I pay enough for the hunt I will do what I need to do to get my animal. Especially if it's a good one. deer2

I use to crawl through briar patches and thickets deer hunting in West Virginia. Bow stayed in my left hand, and crawled however I could to get through. One I the reason I quit using bow sights is that the fiber optics on the sites and the rubber tube that held the peep sight were always catching on the thick brush and breaking.

Prolly not with a bow and the prey was also a predator. Thank you for your service.

Right, not with a bow, Thanks Bubba.

My buddy Rloving he's on here sometimes, ranged a giant red stag and crawled to it, the problem was the stag was also coming his way. He was trying to keep track of how far he crawled since he ranged it. He got up and flung an arrow right over the withers, he was sick over it.
You have to be cognizant of the distance when crawling; I would too it I had a chance to score a monster.
