Should be interesting

Should be interesting - 10/19/13 12:20 PM

Well taking my boy with me this weekend, typically we sit in the gun stand thats 150yds from the feeder to get hogs but think this time we are going to try the 40yd pop up to see how he does. Anyone have any tips for keeping him entertained. For a 4yr old he does pretty good just concerned when something shows up he tends to get a little excited. Either way I always enjoy having him in there with me, lifes never dull with a boy and his imagination.

You can always tell him you see something to keep his eyes peeled. I tend to watch a trail in from previous hunts more when I know deer are using it. But at 4, just enjoy yourself.

The important thing is the quality time you spend with him!!! I remember the times I spent with my dad hunting/fishing when I was growing up and the memories meant more to me and him than seeing anything or catching anything!!!

I take my phone with me for my kids to play with if they get bored. It isn't my what I want, but they usually keep quiet and still. I hope you guys get/see something. That makes for a much better experience and keeps them in it.

Good luck

Well we left all electronics at home, and we had a blast. I also learned some new ways to spook the dear like just as Im about to release and arrow he says bang because he is shooting his imaginary gun. Would you believe it startled both I and the doe and she took off and my arrows do pretty good at sticking into trees.

Re: Should be interesting - 10/21/13 12:22 PM

I did my best to not get upset so I just laughed and we sat there and counted the birds and named the other critters that came and went. At dark 30 we headed back to the cabin built a fire, after a bit he looked at me straight faced and asked when we were going to go get his deer.

taking my kids in the blind can often be more fun than the hunting.

One thing that has always entertained my daughters is a pad of paper and pencils. They like to draw pictures of the critters that they see. It's a good quiet time killer for them.

Great story to tell his future wife when he's older. Lol. I'm taking my girls this weekend for rifle opener. Hoping my youngest can shoot her first deer. The times we spend I. The field are priceless and I wouldnt trade them for the world.

That is an awesome story.

Good times with the little guy.

My daughter has been hunting with me for a while now, and she is just beginning to really hunt. It has been fun spending time with her doing this stuff.

You can tell him that story when he takes his little ones out someday.

That is a good story, I needed the laugh. Memories like that will stay with him for a long time. Sure do miss the days of hunting with my dad when I was younger.

Brings back memories of when my boys were little. Every time I took the boys out I would never plan on seeing anything just went for fun and stand training for when they were older. Those were the best times! And wouldn't you know it the game would always seem to show up when we would be laughing and joking not even looking .

Of course as they got older I would have to sit in my own stand if I wanted to shoot anything.

Great job dad!! Enjoy it while you can they grow up quick!!
