Re: shops & ranges - 04/06/13 11:47 PM

A buddy of mine just opened a 20 target 3D course on his ranch. He's got bag targets at the beginning of the course and among the 3D's are 2 moving targets and elevated targets as well. This is set up in real hunting situations. Right now he's only open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm until dark and every other Saturdays from 9am to 1pm; the cost is only $10. I hope to see it open more regular in the future. The ranch is named Ramah Ranch in Ennis. I'm going to post a thread with a map and everything. I hope to see a good THF turn out.

Re: shops & ranges - 09/17/13 11:21 PM

Well I checked out Alvarado Archery today everyone from the owner, techs and customers where super friendly and very knowledgeable and helpful. The 30 yard range is nicely set up. Most customers shooting from the 20yard line but if you ask nicely they will move back for you to shoot at 30yd line. They also have many fold out chairs for you to practice shooting while sitting. They have a great assortment of accessories for your bow rather it be a compound, recurve or crossbow. So if your anywhere near the area its a must that you go by and check out there shop.

Re: shops & ranges - 10/17/13 01:16 PM

I would not go to Garland. The old man there complained about changing a cam that I needed switched out. All my friends have has the same experience with him. He just yells and complains. Why complain when I am giving you my money? Anyways they lost my business.

If near dallas make the drive to Native Outdoors in Royce City off 548. Awesome people.

Allstar archery in Lewisville is the best shop I have been to in dfw. They are a Mathews dealer and probably the closest to Prosper. Cinnamon creek has a nice 3d range but it is a haul from prosper. I mostly just shoot in the back yard.

Re: shops & ranges - 09/25/15 09:50 PM

Hey Folks, I just wanted to introduce myself and my shop.

My name is Kevin, and I'm the owner/sole employee of Apex Archery Shop in Pilot Point. So there's no confusion, I was never affiliated with Hunter's Headquarters in ANY way WHATSOEVER. I don't personally know the guy who owned that place, and had nothing to do with it.

At any rate... I have a small shop that I run out of the building at my house. I work another full time job, so my hours are inconsistent, but I try to make it work as best I can. At this stage, I am a full line dealer for PSE, and carry mainline bows from Diamond, Martin, and some others. All of the product info is on my website, which I will link below. I attended PSE's school this past spring, and plan to attend an unaffiliated tech school this coming spring. I offer archery product sales, tuning, service, and I have some hunting gear to sell as well. I'm moving away from the hunting gear side of things given the fact that there are so many big box stores nearby, but I can order the things you might need if you so desire. The turnaround time from my supplier is 2-3 business days.

One question that is asked often of shops is what bows are they "certified" to work on. The answer to that question for me, is that I am "certified" to work on PSE bows. Because I am not a dealer for the other brands... yet... I can't order their parts directly from them. However, this does not mean that I cannot tune, restring, or adjust ANY brand of bow. The industry is fairly standardized, and the info I would need to do things other than normal is out there on the interwebs. Understandably, some people just feel better taking it to an authorized dealer, nothing I can do about that at this point, but I hope to add other bow manufacturers in the future. I don't work off credit, so having the working capital takes time to build up, which is required for initial orders for new dealers.

Now that y'all know my story, I'm here for your needs, so feel free to give me a call if you're needing some stuff, or need your bow restrung/tuned.

My website is apexarcheryshoptx.com. I also have a facebook page if you'd like to give it a like. I do giveaways from time to time.

Here's my other info

Made the move to the DFW area and stopped by Alvarado Archery a few times. They treated me well and have a great selection of bows, equipment, and an indoor range.

Just an FYI- the bow shop in Instacash Pawn in Nacogdoches has closed. On Texasbowhunter.com I posted up about having trouble with my pins getting fuzzy (59 year old eyes) and was told about Outdoor Connection in Jacksonville. Stopped in and learned about peep verifiers and had one installed. First impression was that Logan knows his stuff and worked with me to make sure I was happy. There is an outdoor range. I recommend ya'll check it out.

Buffalo Field Archery Club
13155 Clay Rd, Houston, Texas 77043

http://www.buffalofield.org/

I am a new member at this club. So far I like it and the members that I have met are great people. They are open to the public Saturday mornings and you can shoot your bows at the target range area from 8am-12pm on Saturdays and take a tour of the club. They ask that you read the clubs range rules before coming to the club for safety reasons. They also have a 3D course, host 3D shoots, an Olympic range and host Olympic shoots there. They also have bows and arrows for people who want to learn archery during the Saturday open house.

From the club's website

Visit an Open House
Buffalo Field Archery Club is open to the public, for free, on Saturday mornings from 8am until noon. This is a time for guests to come and visit the facility, meet a board member or volunteer, shoot some arrows and take a tour.
If you don't have your own archery equipment yet, borrow ours! We have some bows on hand for visitors to try archery before taking the plunge.

Before visiting, please be kind enough to read our range rules so you know what to expect. Thank you. We look forward to meeting you.
