Stevens Favorite Model 1915 - I have questions, need help - 03/01/24 04:01 AM

I've inherited a Stevens Favorite 1915, I'm hoping there are few members of the forum that are familiar with this rifle and can help answer some questions I have.

Thanks

Do you know what caliber it is? It looks like most were .22 but some were .25 and .32. I'm sure someone who knows about these will be along soon.

Be sure the block is tight against the breechface when closed. A friend shot one that was a little sloppy and caught a piece of .22 rim in the eyebrow. You wouldn't think such a small wound could bleed so much.
I mounted a tang sight and Lyman globe front on the much later Savage 30G iteration of this classic and it was a wonderfully handy little plinker and great to train children with.

I can't see anything on the barrel or any part of the gun that tells me if it is a .22 or a .25. With the patina on the gun it's difficult to read everything.

The breech face is NOT tight at all. I want to take everything apart and replace and see if I can get the gun back in working order.

GPS: There is an 8-page chapter on the Favorites in "Single Shot Rifles and Actions" by Frank DeHaas, complete with detailed drawings and gunsmithing discussions. If interested, PM me your e-mail and I will send photos of each page.

Took everything apart and I'm 95% sure that this rifle is a .32. When I cleaned the barrel a .22 brush didn't even come close to touching the insides of the barrel. I ran a .270 brush down it and it hardly touched the inside if the barrel. When I removed the extractor and cleaned it up I could clearly see the number 32 stamped on it.

I replaced the springs on mine and it shoots good. Before that it would eject the spent case into your forehead.

No it’s older. 1907 maybe. 22 short and long.

I have one in .32 caliber.
Pretty sure its .32 rimfire which is all but impossible to find.
I had mine converted to centerfire 32 S&W which is technically a lower pressure cartridge.
Mine is a takedown model with a D screw under the forearm.
It can be broken down and put in a backpack.
.32 S&W is not at all impressive.
because of its age I make handloads that are even less impressive, but it is fun to shoot if a bit tedious.

Blanco,

Did you replace the extractor on your rifle? I will need to replace the one on mine, it is missing the extractor plunger and the plunger spring that is in it doesn't look to good.

Does it have a heavy barrel ?

If you take the forearm off , and look at the face of the action , It may be stamped 44 or 44 1/2

this was a more robust model and more sought after these days.

I have one in 32 rimfire and some one on this board gave me a hand full of cartridges a few years back. ( thanks again , if you are reading this )

Mine locks up tight and I will pull it out of the safe and fire it one of these days smile

MO, Yes the barrel is heavy. I discovered that on the barrel up near the rear sight there is a 32-L stamped on the barrel. The extractor also has the number 32 stamped on it. There is the number 2 stamped on the breach block. In its current condition mine is not tight at all. I'd take any advice/help on what I need to do to get this gun restored to working condition.

I believe the the 32 L refers to 32 rimfire which came in 32 long and 32 short. Like 22 's, 32 shorts can be fired in a
32 long, but not vice versa.

You can find ammo on gunbroker at times , but they are .

you might find some info on your rifle on Rimfire Central.
