Gun value?

Gun value? - 11/22/23 01:33 PM

A few years ago I bought a Ruger ar in 300BO for my kids to cut their teeth hunting with. It’s a neat rifle but I’m not a fan of the Easter egg hunt for brass and an ar just isn’t me. Thinking about selling and replacing with a 300 BO bolt action and an adjustable stock.

The ruger is a 16 inch 1:7 twist with about 50 rounds through it, no issues. Would come with a 30 rd and 5 rd mag and a weaver steel 30 mm scope mount. What’s a ball park fair value?

Thanks

My best guess: maybe $600

Agree with RiverRider $550-$600

I have literally never sold a gun so new territory if I do sell it, but new it’s listed for $799 currently. Dang at $550 this will be chalked up as a regretted purchase I will just keep.

Get yourself a barrel chambered for a round you think you might like. It's not that hard to do, usually, but having never messed with Ruger's version it may require some stuff I can't tell you about. That said, you could turn that rifle into a 6mm ARC, which is a very useful round in the AR15. There are quite a few possibilities that might appeal to you and you might even be able to peddle that .300 BO barrel.

Yessir- flippety floppety gun market these days
When a couple of my relatives bought their AR's, they had to pay over a thousand apiece.
Crazy. I use several H&R/NEF Handi rifles occasionally. Last one I bought was new before
any of us civilians knew that Remington was about to kill the brand, and one of the big box
places had a clearance. $179.00 & change for any Handi rifle in stock. They also had an
online coupon that was anything goes no exclusions
I've killed several wt deer with it, so it's pretty much amortized.
Now people seem to want em, and I've seen just barrels on fleabay and gunjoker for
$300.00 up. Who can figure wth ?

List it for $700. If it doesn't sell in a week or 2 you know what it's worth.

I’m content with the caliber and intend to keep that aspect, not into the platform itself.

Might do that. My little boy is going to finish the season with it at least, but then who knows if he kills his first with it I probably won’t sell it.

$750 at Bud's plus tax, etc. Can build one for about $400. Ruger brand is appealing to many. Someone would pay $600 if not for the 300BLK part.

Nothing wrong with 300BLK but someone that wants an OEM rifle with a name like Ruger probably is probably looking for a 5.56X45 and probably for their first AR.

Yeah i think you should either keep it or rebarrel + bolt it. Otherwise expect to take a loss. Its not a good sellers market for ARs. Im building an AR now that will end up being sub $400.

Just making sure I understand, I did not convert it to 300 BO, bought it that way new.

Down the road if your kids get into hog hunting more than likely they'll be looking at an AR. And what better AR than the one they cut their teeth on. Just saying.

Good point.

Redchevy, maybe put it in the classifieds here not for sale, but for trade for the rifle that you want.

Just put a Caldwell brass catcher on it. No more hunt for brass. You can just slip in on or off. Easy.

Ordered a brass catcher will give it a whirl. Still wish I would have gone for a ruger or savage bolt with an adj stock.

I pointed out why that makes it harder to sell.

RedChevy just wondering, what number were you expecting people to say?

Didn’t really have an expectation, like I’ve said never sold a single firearm but routinely see bolt guns listed and sell for new retail price less tax, guess ar’s aren’t the same. Seeing them listed new for $799 and having one barely used with a few extras for $550 was a little surprising. I guess inflation doesn’t affect gun resale value lol.

Thanks, that’s what I thought just making sure. Appreciate it

I bet you would get a bit more than $550 for it, I could see someone paying in the $650 range. I’m with you though on the platform, I’m not too sure that I’m a fan of it either. One dislike I have for it, is not being able to quietly load a cartridge.
