Sig Cross 308

Sig Cross 308 - 06/14/23 11:58 PM

I recently purchased two Sig Cross 308's. One is reserved in its 16" format for thermal Pig whacking. The other went to the gunsmith for a Benchmark 22" barrel for daytime hunting.

Gotta say I am thoroughly impressed with them. They are inherently accurate, compact, lightweight & so easy to handle. Nothing sparks my fancy more than a compact sweet shooting 308. The 22" puts two different loads (4 shots) into an aggregate group, 1/2 moa. The 16" does the same. I had heard stories of these being finicky until you found a load it likes and then it was hard to beat. I guess my first attempts hit the nail on the head.

Nice! I’ve been eyeballing one of the 308 16”. I too like small easy to handle 308’s.

I’m a fan. I’m going to rebarrel a 6.5 Gaymoor to a 6.

Took forever to find an action wrench, Sig never did have them in stock.

not sure why you need to drop down to 6CM, as you would probably load 105gr for 6.5 CM anyways

Re: Sig Cross 308 - 06/16/23 06:14 PM

There is a 108 scenar that would be attractive...but the real reason is because I have a bunch of 6 brass and the 105 hybrid is a beast!

Reason, who needs reason? So many guns, so little time.

Got one from Cabelas as soon as they came out. Been real happy with how small it packs and the way it shoots.
Use Sierra Game Kings over Varget for hunting and Match Kings over Tac for target shooting.
Recently did a zero check. Bottom right cold bore and wind holds, top right Match Kings, bottom left Game Kings. Didn't press my luck and put it away after that.

I’ve been wanting to rebarrel mine to 6cm with a Straight Jacket prefit, still waiting for Proof prefits but oh well I’m enjoying my .308.

Count me as a fan of the Sig Cross in 308 Win.

When I got my first suppressor, I was looking for a bolt rifle with a 16" barrel that would shoot "minute of hoglet".

[Linked Image]

Add a 7" can and you've a barrel length that is not inconvenient for stand hunting.

[Linked Image]

Love the accuracy and two-stage trigger.

I've a number of rifles, single shot, bolt and MSR's, but the Sig Cross has become my "perforator" of choice.

ya!

Nic, at StraightJacket, is very easy to deal with. He is honest, accommodating and very customer oriented.

JMHO,

I shoot groups over a chronograph in order to establish a velocity/accuracy quotient, when my plan is to emply handloads.

[Linked Image]

or occasionally if I'm testing a load to determine the primer I will employ.

I will sacrifice velocity for accuracy 11 times out of 10.

With factory fodder I will shoot groups to see which ammo the rifle likes. I don't so much worry about velocity with factory loads.

After that, 'first shot, cold bore' is my main concern. The type of hunting I do, I rarely have the opportunity to make a second shot unless its for insurance (which I do more and more as I do not like to track boars, especially at night).

I had heard that the Sig could be temperamental in regards to Ammo.

[Linked Image]

I tried 4 different factory loads.

[Linked Image]

Turned out mine liked the 150 Gr. Norma Soft Points.

I have a number of rifles chambered for the 308 Win. Fortuitously, I had recently purchased 20 boxes from Palmetto State Armory for about $14 per box, so that is all I have used.

The rifle has accounted for several foxes, coons and near 50 pigs in the 1.5 years that I've owned it.

Be warned. These Sig Crosses will spoil ya!

Best,

GWB

Re: Sig Cross 308 - 06/26/23 09:27 PM

I have a 16" 308 as well. It's a fantastic rifle to carry around and use. The stock has plenty of adjustability without being too chunky. Mine shoots bugholes with any number of factory loadings. I suspect a lot of the reports of "finnicky" floating around on the internet are from people who just can't shoot a rifle very well. Due to the lightweight-ness, I'm pretty sure these people's lack of fundamentals are being exploited by the trimmed down design of the rifle.

Also, will second the fact that it's a great thermal host. Some 110's at 2900fps are murderous on hogs running across a wheat field.

What advantage does the cross have over the Ruger SFAR? Little bit of accuracy?

Folding stock is nice. More dependability is pretty much a given, as bolt gun will always be simpler. Easier to suppress. A little more velocity with same ammo in both. And the biggest one for me.... heavy caliber AR's are a lot harder to shoot well.

They are 2 completely different animals. Chassis bolt action vs. Semi auto. They just happen to share the same magazine

They are, but shoot the same round, have essentially the same dimensions, weigh the same, are both threaded, what advantage does the cross have over the same package that is semi auto?

almost pound lighter in weight, more suppressor friendly, folding stock, less moving action parts, shorter overall rifle.

Technically Sig cross isnt a chassis bolt action as its a one piece receiver/action/stock

Im not a AR platform fan, really comes down to what you want. I can fit cross into a back pack, and unfold then ring steel at 600 no issue.

I am thinking about ordering a NULA when the Wilson Combat version is available. I think I will get a 20" barrel, A little extra velocity but still short enough to use in a box bling for deer.

Sig Cross .308 16”
LP MK 6
Nomad 30
Harris Bipod

After barrel started to foul group 4 & 5 started to produce the best results.
