If it's in the middle of West Texas, not that much to me. If it's a hour or two from the metro mess, now we are talking. Set up, targets, shooting platform, etc. Need more info.

The one my buddies go to is $60 per person per day. Targets out to 2400 yards.

If you are considering buying an existing range, make sure to have a real environmental assessment done.

Some older ranges have some very serious groundwater contamination issues and the liability for cleanup costs can be shockingly high.

If you are thinking about staring a new range, make sure to work with a lawyer to setup some very solid business barriers to limit exposure to personal liability for environmental contamination and cleanup costs.

This definitely is not a DIY create a corporation from a $99 online form type project.

The NRA has some good information on this topic. They even have a team that will go to work for you, you provide the money.

It gets expensive real quick. Dad wanted to start a gun range when he retired, but he was looking at and easy $500,000 and that wasn’t even for a 1000 yard range

Insurance will be outrageous.

I would be curious to know what the insurance costs (including liability) would be for a business to operate (insert any city or county). Hypothetical...20 rifle lanes, longest out to 1,000 yards, trap and skeet fields as well as 20 pistol bays or lanes.

Depends on how it is set up. A public range is going to be costly. A club range is more affordable. Thus the reason myself, and many others require a qualification prior to being cut loose on the place.

Triple C would be the closest example to DFW I believe. Out to 2k for $50 a visit.

I know Best of the West near Liberty Hill (out to 1K) is having some serious problems with a neighbor
Seems to happen everytime one gets busy

There's a 1300 yard range near Comfort that opened up recently I want to get out to...

I know Best of the West makes you qualify to go further than 250.

Hadn't been out there in a while and went 2 weeks ago.. the land owner next door (who may own the land they are on as well) is trying to shut them down. at least the long range section..

calling the cops out their multiple times a month

now, if they have rounds leaving the property....

I've been to BOTW twice in the last 30 days and had good experiences both times, didn't see anoyone that appeared unhappy the range was there but that's not saying much. One time they even said they were looking to make changes to the long range part and asked what I would like to see there. There aren't many other options in Central TX to shoot long range, I'm glad this one is here and more than willing to pay $20 to shoot out to 1,000 yards. I wish they had targets at other ranges other than every 250 yards.

Man I hope he’s not successful, I like the 1000 yard range!

Looks like the long range is temporarily closed until further notice.
