Accurizing 77/22 Project - 02/03/16 03:15 PM
So, has anyone on here ever bedded a Ruger 77/22 action? I've had mine for over 30 years and it's been a good shooter, but I want to take it to the next level. The only modification it's ever had was to float the barrel right after I bought it. I pulled the stock last night for the first time in 3 decades to get an idea of what might be required to bed the action, and was surprised to find that there were no pillars and the action sits directly on the wood stock with a large contact area. I really didn't remember that, or maybe didn't notice it the one and only other time the stock was off. With the very tight tolerances involved, I don't know if a traditional bedding job would work without removing some wood from the action area, and with all of the rather intricate inletting involved I don't think I want to attempt that. What say you? Try it without removing any wood? Use something else on the wood under the action like some type of sealer? Don't worry about bedding at all?
