Thinking about putting a trigger in my Winchester model seventy 308. The gun is about ten years old. What trigger would y'all recommend?

I'd go Timney, but that's just me.

I have read that some people had trouble getting their timneys to fit right in their m 70

Different types of M70 actions.

there are better triggers than timmey, for hunting it's good, the fit some times has to be tweaked, lifetime guarantee.

Have you tried lightening the stock trigger?

More often than not, a one pound trigger is an accident waiting to happen. On my target guns, around 2 pounds is about as light as I ever go.

On a hunting rifle, 2.5 pounds is my lower limit. Most are better off with three pounds.

Agree! 1lb is definitely an accident waiting to happen! You need it a minimum of 2lbs. If you ever hunt in cold weather and wear gloves you'd never feel that trigger when the rifle goes boom!

The only trigger I'd go lighter than 2 lbs on would be my .17 HMR. I have a single set trigger set at 1.5 lbs on it (just started shooting it today, BTW) and it is perfect for me. If it's a hunting rifle, I'd go minimum 2 lbs, I prefer 2.5 - 3 lbs.

YMMV.
