I like it... but I kinda want one that you can adjust the cheek piece without tools. Plus I always like the chassis style look better

Manners T-2, T-3, or T-4 or McMillan A-3, A-4, or A-5. Third Gen or Bugholes prolly has one in stock right now.

Can you adjust cheek piece without tools?

Re: chassis or stock options??? - 11/21/14 10:26 PM

Don't think so. You could add a stock pack and keep an allen wrench for your scope as well as the stock adjustment. I keep one in mine to adjust the turret but do not run adjustable stocks since the stock pack takes care of the correct sight alignment. Same as an adjustable stock but costs $200 less, and is more handy.

You like the folding aics 2.0 at all?

I've heard people either love or hate the AICS stocks. I'd for sure try on out before dropping that much dough on one. Now of course if you're feeling charitable after you get your chassis system you could always give me that stock and bottom metal smile

I've never used an AICS so I can't speak of personal experience. I'd factor the weight of the stocks prior to buying, though.

I put a Rock Solid Chassis on one of my 700s just last week. I've only fired about 20 rounds from it but so far so good. It isn't tool-less adjustable though.

Im seriously thinking about a KRG xray so that I can save a little $. Its hard for me to chew off $1000 in stock and stock work even though its highly important. Im just sure if I will like it on a hunting gun and I hardly ever shoot prone.

This is a KRG that I installed on a 700 that I built for a customer. It's a nice chassis for the $$$ but be aware that to change LOP, you have to buy a shim kit and the cheek piece sits pretty high, even on the lowest setting. I pulled the o-rings off of the guide rods and it helped a lot, but we may go with higher rings just to make it a bit more comfortable.

Man I wish I could handle that gun to see how it balances. I thought the stock came with some spacers or was that one of the extras?

Re: chassis or stock options??? - 11/22/14 02:10 AM

The spacers were extra but I don't think they cost much, maybe $15-$20. It comes with several poly rail sections but only two of them fit without drilling extra holes. This one actually balances pretty well despite having a pretty heavy barrel. One thing that helps is that the barrel is only 20". Of course, it's pretty muzzle-heavy with the can on it, but that's to be expected.

That rig looks muzzle heavy, but so are all of mine. Can't even sling the rifle, muzzle up, with the suppressor attached.

It is, but it was a lot worse before I took 6" off of the barrel. Other than being a heavy beast, it actually carries pretty decent.

I didn't care for the AI chassis personally. I went with a manners T5A with mini chassis and love it.

I have a KRG and I love it. The cheek piece is easy to adjust and you don't need tools to do so. I've always been a fan of the beautiful walnut stock but I will never go back to a wood stock for a custom rifle. And it's important to me to be able to make it fit me.

Is the X-ray consistent with the plastic on a magpul ar stock if you had to describe it?

I'm sure. I've got a Rem Varmint contour finished at 25". Top that with 10" of 26 oz. suppressor, and it way out of balance.

I run a McRees Precision folding chassis on my R700 in 300WM. Solid aluminum, adjustable cheekweld and LOP. Love it.

Don't want hijack this thread but a question along these lines. Lightest stock but still good and solid for hunting or bench shooting with an adjustable cheek piece? Also price is important. Chassis or traditional. Stiff enough for bipod.

Stocks are like buying boots, try as many as you can to see which feels and works best for you.

I've been through a bunch and the AI is my favorite by far. I am using a fixed, but the folders are nice also.

MCS-EH1

Had they been producing this stock when I built the 7 Rem Mag it is the one I would have ordered, without a doubt. It does not say adjustable cheek, but a phone call to them would clear that up. It is not a budget build stock, though. But I seriously doubt you'll ever damage it, top notch quality, very ergonomic, and at 26 ounces it is light weight.
