Marlin 336 Owners Looking for a Better Trigger - 04/18/14 04:26 PM
Wanting to add a lever gun to my small collection, I recently opted for a Marlin 336W (which some call a Walmart model). While the 336 is a great utility gun, I quickly learned they have a horrible trigger. The creep was so bad on mine that it actually felt like a two-stage trigger with a second stopping point after an initial squeeze.
A quick search of the net uncovered a "Trigger Happy Kit" made by Wild West Guns and sold by Midway USA for just under $100 if you include the shipping. Yes, that's a little pricey for a simple trigger lever, but about the same price for a trigger job from a professional gunsmith.
I installed it last night and wow, what a difference. Just as the claims I read earlier on the net, it cut the pull in half (about three pounds) and breaks like the trigger on a gun that costs several times more. It was a little tricky to install (removing the hammer was a little difficult), but anyone with a small amount of mechanical ability can do it. Just take your time, keep everything in the screw holes lined up, and you should be fine.
Here's a link to step by step instructions that I followed to install my Trigger Happy...
