Underfolder AKs?

Underfolder AKs? - 10/12/13 09:14 PM

Anyone have experience with them? I am contemplating a Yugo M70 but dont know much about them or underfolders in general. Are they easy enough to shoot with the metal stock? Id be going from an Arsenal SGL21. Just bored with the Arsenal and looking to mix things up

Not very fun on the ole cheek if you plan on shooting it a lot. Paracord helps.

Just got a m70ab2. Cool gun but the buttstock is wide, it's something I didn't think about.

I have a polish UF I built. Shoots well, the 'buttstock' portion took some getting used to.

Hmm, im having 2nd thoughts then. I dont really enjoy shooting the AK platform i just like owning one. Sounds like an underfolder would actually lead to me shooting AK even less than I do today.

They are neat rifles, especially the M70. Very compact when folded, and mine would easily do 2" at 100 with Hornady steel case Vmax loads.

If you just want to own one the underfolder might be a good bet to have between the two since it is more compact and mobile.

I dont like when things are out of symmetry so side folders irk me. Im sure they're just as functional but im way to OCD. I also dislike odd numbers when controlling the volume on TV

I hear ya! Going with an OPAP, stripping wood off and going with Hogue forearm and Ace non folding stock. Going for a certain look!

The best stock for shooting an AK is a full stock. Obviously, that might not be the most practical for your situation (whatever it is).

I like underfolders versus sidefolders, but there are some really solid sidefolder options out there, and even a couple of different ways to get the stock to fold to the left side (if you like that).

The really neat thing about underfolders is the whole lack of bulk. Its a small'ish package and +/- simple. But it isn't the most comfortable and it can sometimes be a PITA with regards to the buttstock getting into and staying in position.

With all things considered equal, if you wanted a folding stock, I would still recommend an underfolder. If you didn't care which stock the gun wore, then a full-sized stock is your best bet....

i have a side folder and an under folder, both work fine(i find the under-folder to be very lively, i shoot it the most) a wood stock is probably the best way to go as far as recoil goes...my underfolder hurts after a hundred rounds...

There's a reason the Russian Army went to a sidefolder later...

the underfolder design is a straight copy of the one on the German MP40 subgun. Handy, compact, but over time, they loosen up and won't lock up tight (i've seen some at about a 35 degree angle) and are generally uncomfortable to shoot.

Russian troops usually wrapped a first-aid bandage around the left strut of the stock as a cheekpad. The AK-74M and AK-100 series side-folding (locking) stock design is far, far superior and more comfortable to shoot. It also gives you a full stock when open.

I have a wood stock, plastic stock, and underfolder. I would deff. go with the wood stock first then other 2 are a tie. its cool but full is better imo
