300 Blackout

300 Blackout - 01/03/13 01:39 PM

OK, I'm one of these AR loons and am interested in a 300 blackout. I have a Larue PredatOBR in 7.62 on order but have not received yet. I have an AAC 762sdn6 suppressor that I'm currently running on a Larue OBR lite. I've been thinking about getting a 300 blackout....any thoughts?? Also, can't decide whether to go AR style of Bolt gun route. I would probably only be interested in shooting subs in it for shots no further than 150 yards or so. Mostly for fun but would probably take it calling as well for shooting vermin as silently as possible. Pros, cons, optics etc would be welcome.

I have the bolt gun I built out of a savage. It's stupid quite been thinking about selling it and building a sbr bolt gun to keep everything super short.

I have an AR, single shot and bolt gun in 300 BLK. If I were to do it again I woulda built the AR in 6.8 instead of 300 because the bolt gun and single shot are just so freakin quiet. I put a stalk on a hog and shot him from about 40 yards with the single shot and a YHM can. Heard the round hit him, then hit the tree behind him, SOOOOOO quiet. The AR is just as quiet at the muzzle but the bolt slapping into battery kinda kills it. If you do a bolt gun I would build a Savage not a Remington, it will be much easier and cheaper.

I have a spare savage barrel if the op is looking.

build both!thats only problem with the ar but its nice if you need to make multiple shots compared to a bolt gun. i really like the 300 blackout round after the yote and deer i killed with it. both went down within about 10 feet from where i shot them.

thanks for the input everyone. I was looking at the AAC micro 7 for the bolt gun. Haven't ever really tried building any kind of gun, could be an adventure....of course I already have the can so my patience may get the best of me.

Same here. Bolt and single are hollywood quiet with subs, action noise from the AR kills it for me. Same thing with .22's, I love shooting the 77/22 with supressor, but the 10/22's action noise sucks.

Re: 300 Blackout - 01/03/13 04:53 PM

Love my PWS 300 Blackout. Light, accurate, little recoil, and has yet to not bring down a deer or hog.

Have shot three deer this year with it all approx 100 yards out. All have been clean through and throughs. Two ran approx. 50-65 yards and the other was DRT. Using Barnes VOR-TX 110gr.

I'm using the Optisan Mamba 1-4x24. Most of my shots are all under 200 yards and it does the trick.

IMO you can't go wrong with the 300 Blackout for deer or hogs. wink

shot any deer or pigs with subsonic?

Re: 300 Blackout - 01/03/13 05:02 PM

Shot 2 pigs with 220 OTM subs. One was 80lb sow through the ear at 70 yards, DRT. The other was 130lb boar behind the eye at 40 yards, DRT.

3x9 NIKON pro staff bdc

Re: 300 Blackout - 01/03/13 08:25 PM

Nikon P-22 with subs. The ballistics are the same for a 220gr sub and a 40gr standard velocity 22lr so the BDC works great.

How quiet are these bolt action 300blackouts? Quiet enought that you shoot one hog and the rest of the sounder doesn't run?

Re: 300 Blackout - 01/03/13 08:42 PM

The gun is quite but what ever the bullet hits is loud. No matter what gun you shoot the hogs are going to run off hell even a arrow hitting one will make the rest run off.

Re: 300 Blackout - 01/08/13 03:42 AM

Well I have an AAC micro 7 on the way, still on the optics fence. Wish I could get an illuminated reticle, maybe Leupold firedot but that's kinda expensive. I'd go for the p-22 if it was illuminated, might anyway

They usually run from one getting shot with a bow, so not sure how quite a gun would have to be.
