Saw it on sale at Gander Mountain for $129.99 (savings of $20). Caliber 7.62x38R with 4 1/2" barrel. Includes holster and cleaning tools. Online #UF102143754. Good or bad buy? Ammo price? Opinions please?

I don't know for sure but you can almost always bet that if the price tag has Gander Mountain's name on it that it can be found cheaper elsewhere.

I personally wouldn't buy. The ammo is so different that once the surplus is gone new production will probably be either hard to find or expensive.

Actually that is a good price for a nagant revolver. Also ammo is still made for it that is not surplus. Fiochi, S&B and there are other production ammo out there. But you can buy a cylinder for it that is in 32 long or 32 acp.

Those are a neat little pieces of history. I like them for thier historic value rather than any real tangible value they have. He created it to solve the problem of losing some of the pressure because of the small gap between the cylinder and the barrel in a revolver. When you pull the trigger the cylinder actually move foward some to compensate for this. Very neat little gun, ingenius way to solve this "problem" too bad it happened right about the time semi auto blowback pistols became the wave of the future. off my soap box
Cheap gun, fun to shoot, probably wont be worth a lot in years to come (i could be wrong though)but if youre looking to plink around or just want a new toy why not.

I had one back when they were $60. Neat revolver. Mine looked like it had never been fired. When I shot it for the first time, I figured out why. The double action trigger pull was somewhat higher than that of squeezing water out of a rock.
I ended up selling it, but I wish I hadn't.

So I went up to Gander Mountain and guess what? No Nagant on display or in stock. mad The frosting on the cake? GM does not even carry the ammo in stock according to sales staff. mad The staff could not even tell me if any inventory is forthcoming bang Wishing academy would have carried them frown Way to go GM.

Military Gun Supply has been carrying them. I think they were $109. And AIM surplus has ammo. I bought a couple to go with the Mosins. Trigger stinks but something old and fun at the range.
