From what I understand it has a pretty hellacious kick...

Why not a 7.62x39 upper?

Re: .458 SOCOM? - 07/11/10 05:08 AM

7.62 will be my next option right now im dead set on this .458 I just want a lot of lead going down range and I never heard or seen anybody using it.

It's not that it's real expensive, it's just hard to find.

Re: .458 SOCOM? - 07/11/10 03:38 PM

That could be a problem!

Re: .458 SOCOM? - 07/11/10 05:58 PM

The AR currently on my wish list is my brother's 6.8 that he's had for 2 years that has never been shot or had so much as iron sights mounted on it.

Amantine,

Why not the 50 beowulf? It's pretty much the same thing at half the price of ammo.

Re: .458 SOCOM? - 07/11/10 09:57 PM

The 50 is probably the route I'll go next! I want something that will literally stop a truck! 2 or 3 through the block and DRT!!!

So I would have to dedicate a lower to the 50? I couldn't swap out my 6.8 or 5.56 lower?

I think it's more of a statement to cover his tail, by stating that it won't work in a regular AR-15 5.56 for those gun idiots.

Re: .458 SOCOM? - 07/12/10 06:38 AM

The modificstion is taking your regular run of the mill AR-15 safety checking it and push your takedown pins out, remove 5.56 upper install .50 bewolf upper push both take down pins in, load live mag charge round and go to work.

After all it was designed for the Coast Gaurd patrol boats to punch through engine blocks if they didn't have a mounted M2 Browning on the front.

Saw a show last night about some pig hunters using a Remmy 450 Bushmaster. Don't know anything about it, but it worked pretty good.

Re: .458 SOCOM? - 07/12/10 02:52 PM

From what I have heard, with the .450 bushmaster you can use regular AR-15 .223 magazines, but the rounds go in like a single stack mag.

Re: .458 SOCOM? - 07/12/10 02:57 PM

I have a bushmaster .450 that is a for sure a cannon. It knocks the biggest boars flat on their arse.

I just read a ton of negative feedback on the 7.62 something about the bolt/extractor not being too great for this caliber.

I never heard about it til now the upper is at a good price, ammo is still affordable 250gr at 2200 fps and accuracy out to 200 yards. Im starting to fade away from the .458 the .50 and .450 ammo are way easier to get and still have just as much knock down power juggle

i saw that show with the 450......they were knockin some pigs down with it thats for sure...
