Never hunted coyotes before, but I am getting ready to. Any suggestions as to a good 308 round? I was planning on using Federal power-shoks and Remington core-lokts because that is what I have been shooting at the range lately. Thanks, Lucas

308 for coyots is a little much...most people use a .17 or a .223. a .308 will blow the other side of the hide out if your wanting to keep the pelt...just my opinion

Go with core loks if your rifle likes them...stay with the lighter grains...not a big .308 shooter so others might be able to help you more

Those smaller rounds are good but they fly super fast I prefer a larger bullet that will tear more stuff up.

I do have smaller calibers back home. But I'm stationed here at Fort Hood and my 308 is it. And I'm not to worried about the pelts.

Been shootin a .308 for a long time. Mine likes 165 grain but you won't be able to keep the pelt shooting a bullet that heavy. On the bright side you won't be tracking post shot.

Andrew Mar speaks the truth here, the rest are just guessing. I have shot many coyotes with a .308 using projectiles ranging from 110gr V-Max's to 168gr SMK's. When using heavy for intended game, go with the sturdier heavier projectile or suffer heavy pelt damage. I have had multiple grapefruit sized exits with a 110gr V-Max and 110gr Sierra Varminter. 168gr SMK's typically give me caliber sized entries and only slightly larger exits if I stay off bones.
If you just want them dead.........any .30cal will do. Want to save pelts? Get a centerfire .22

Have yet to use them on varmints, but I reloaded some 30-06 rounds with SPEER TNT GREEN 50gr HP using a sabot. Gets excellent patterns at the range. Same load configuration is available for the .308w also. Now let Mr Wiley Coyote or Mr Bob Cat show his face.

Thanks for all the input. I really wish I had my 17 HMR down here! But I think I'm going to use the 150gr Federal Power-shoks since they have been doing good at the range.

Ive been using the hornady TAP bullets on the yotes around here. I could care less about the pelts and the exit hole usually takes off a leg or what ever else it touches. Absolutely no tracking when the lead hits the fur.

Hey 6mm, I am getting pretty stoked too! I may take you up the 22-250 offer. I hunted prairie dogs with one one time in North Dakota and really liked it.

Just use FMJ .308, it works fine for coyotes and does not ruin the hide

Pretty much any round in 308 will work for yotes. I have notice that when people shoot higher caliber rifles for yotes the bullets tend to zip right through with little to no expansion compared to some of the smaller more frangible rounds. If you don't care about the hides go with something semi-frangible like the hornady v-max (if you hand load), hornady 150gr sst, or nosler ballistic tip. Personally my 308 loves the hornady custom 150gr sst, so that's what I would use.
