Does it matter if you are dipping while you are hunting pigs?? Either from a stand 100yds away or from a bowstand 20yds away???

not from a stand 100 yrd away but from a bowstand it would. i think i got bit by a spider being up in that bow stand! woulda killed a hog if you would of wanted to go in the morning!

I was chewing tobacco and spitting on the ground from my tripod from 130 yards away from my feeder when I shot one. Last weekend I had 6 come out and I shot one from 50 yards away. They had no idea. I have dropped a empty beer can and the 200 lb sow i shot from 130 yards stayed there until I laid her down

im certainly no authority when it comes to killing hogs but i have a little bit different take on the subject. i really dont think it matters from a treestand no matter how far away you are. it probably does not help. i smoke and have been on a bunch of trips and have never seen hogs when i was not smoking due to being told i would not see them if i did smoke.

i think the thing that matters most is if:

A) you own your own land and know the terrain well enough to stalk them close to their trails, bedding areas, watering holes etc... i would think in this case scent matters most.

B) if you day lease like me or go with friend from time to time to their lease... you got to go to a place where there is consistent food supply day in and day out and the hogs have developed a ritual almost like deer.

who knows. truth is they are too unpredictable and everybody is going to have their own opinion.

i have tried just about everything, smoking, no smoking, no munching on crackers, peeing off the treestand, peeing in a bottle, scent covers, lots of different baits, lights, times of day, coffee, no coffee, beer no beer, etc.... all the things i have control over.

the only thing that i think ever made a difference was if the hogs had a reason to be at the one spot where i can shoot them. under the feeder where they go everyday to munch. if there is no food there they they will just go somewhere else. and maybe swing by at a later date to see if there is something to eat again.

when i was a kid just starting to go deer hunting with my dad he always made us be super quiet, whisper, etc.... now i know that it was totally unnecessary and when i go with my brother now to the same spot...he dips, i smoke, we ave big coffees, laughing, talking and we practically cant scare the deer off. as long as there is food....they will come. i think it is the same for hogs.

yea its a feeder..we know dipping dont matter from a 100 yrds with wind to the face. but at 20 yard i think it would but one day we will find out.

dippin smokin, none of it matters. If you get scented, you are done. hunting and chewing is like peas and carrots.

I only bow hunt and I always dip, but I don't spit so it really doesn't affect my hunting at all, deer or hogs! I've had them both five yards away without getting busted.

I've killed quite a few under 20yds from the ground with a big dip of snuff in.

Just stay down wind from them, and it really won't matter much what you have in your mouth.

I have had deer and hogs right on top of me while smoking and havent gotten busted yet *knock on wood*

I had 9 deer in a field with me last season while hunting from a ladder stand hung on an Oak tree while spitting Red Man down the side of the tree. I ended up taking 2 does at just over 20 yd and the other just under 20 yd. I have smoked with deer close before aswell just to see if I could get a reaction. It depends on the wind and the animals IMO. Glad I have kicked those habits.
