cool place. Can be a tough hunt but they are there. Was there in the Spring on a hog hunt, the place has changed a lot since I last seen it. Not near as much brush.

Congrats PK - Don't believe the BS some of these guys are posting about Matador. They have had lots of rain in the past 2 months and the grass is tall in most areas on the ranch. We hunted opening weekend of dove season and did well with several limits. Even with all the shotgun blasting saw several deer, WT and Mulie. Jumped several quail coveys and heard many others calling early and late.
One word of caution - Rattlesnakes are plentiful - be careful and good luck!

There are no deer at Matador. Nothing but hoot owls and polecats.

I just got drawn for the gun deer hunt out there. Does anyone know if they let you pick your compartments? Any tips?

You will get to pick your compartment in the order that you were drawn. After you send in your payment, they will send you a permit, a map, and some info. The last four numbers of your permit number will be the order you were drawn.
