Question for you experts. I've got a 1.25-4 Leupold VX-R and an Aimpoint Comp M2. The VX-R is almost new and the Aimpoint is in like new condition. I'm planning to try to trade both of those for a higher end scope and I really like the idea of a first focal plane. What's a good make and model for me to look for that would be a fair deal value wise to try to trade my stuff for?

It will be on a Larue PredatAR in 5.56 in a Larue LT104 mount. Primary use will be hunting hogs/varmints and occasionally shooting at the range. I don't expect to shoot at anything outside of 4-500 yards.

That's pretty slick. I may see if I can send mine in as a trade at SWFA. I like the reticle a lot on that one.

Just filled out their appraisal so we'll see what they say.

That reticle is very cool! A dot on 1x and Mil on 6x. They may not give you a price you'd get from an individual, but you'll certainly move it quicker.
BTW, you have the best mount available! I will be getting one myself pretty soon.

That SWFA SS 1-6X is SICK! I almost wish that I didn't know it existed. There are very few things that really impress me in the optics world. That impressed me, a lot.

USO makes one. Recoil has an article comparing many scopes similar to the one Fireman listed. Not all are FFP, but it's still a good article.

I have a SSHD 1-6 and it is a very versatile sight. Small circle at 1x and mil ret at 6x. Mine is mounted in a ADM Recon mount. Have had 1-4s in both SPF and FFP and couldn't like them. The 1-6 is where it's at for an AR scope.

Checkout the vortex pst or HD line. PST is great for the money

I'm definitely leaning towards on of the SWFA scopes. They seem to fit my needs very well. I like the 1.25 VX-R alot that I have now but I really want a true 1x. The ability to go out to 6x with the SWFA is really attractive as well.

Vortex doesn't have theirs listed as FFP. I will never have a SFP scope again.

Opinions on the Leupold Mark 4 MR/T 1.5-5x20 M2 (30mm) illuminated?

Hmmm, more money, non-standard recticle (Mil or MOA), not as much magnification as the SS.
Easy pick for me.

That was kind of my thinking as well. I entertained the idea but anyway, no matter since the guy who had offered it to me retracted his offer. I have the manuals for the Aimpoint but not the box and he decided he wouldn't be able to take it if it didn't have it's original packaging. I'm mainly looking for a 1-6 SS now anyway. There's not really anything I can find that I don't like about that scope.

The SWFA also has a 1x4 hd version. I run it on my 3 gun AR. I've had it for a couple years now and it completely improved my longer range shooting.
I think the 1x4 is a couple hundred bucks cheaper than the 1x6. I want the 1x6, but don't want to sell the 1x4. Guess it is time to build a new gun to put it on.
I would buy SWFA all day long.

Trijicon Accupoint 1-4. No batteries required. Add a Larue mount and you've got a rock solid setup for less than $1k

I've used the accupoints and actually prefer my Leupold VX-R's to them. I don't care for the reticle. I like not havin batteries but I like the option of having the dot off when I want it off. The best I've seen so far for what I'm wanting is the SWFA scopes. I'm keeping a VX-R 3-9x50 on my noveske N6 but I'm going to swap my aimpoint comp ML2 and my VX-R 1.25-4 for an Swfa if I can find someone willing to trade. Of those that have had experience with the swfa 1-4 and 1-6, how close to true 1x is the setting?

I can't stay out of this one. Jason didn't even post the good stuff. Here's a indepth review of the 1-6 SS. Here you go: It's the same overall length as the 1-4. Notable differences are the eyepiece is slightly longer and the turret housing is larger and farther forward. It is a couple ounces heavier but not too bad at 22 oz. The covered turrets cover "real exposed" turrets so there's no need to keep them covered if you don't want too: So if you want exposed turrets, just toss the covers, if you want them covered keep them covered. There's about 40 Mils of total elevation so it should reach as far as anything you'd put a 6X scope on without a sloped mount. Now to the reticles. These came with two prototype reticles to see what works and what doesn't, neither of which is exactly what the production scope will have. But you can get a good idea of their capability:

Here's a couple 10yd comparisons: For the sake of comparison, here's what a Leupold CQ/T 1-3X circle dot looks on the same target: Here are some pics from the range. The day I took all these pics was really dark, gloomy and rainy so all the pics look like crap--please realize that was due to the light conditions, not the optical quality of the scopes: Post at 100: Those targets at 300 are 8" grey bulls with 2" white centers.

For comparison, here are pics from the 1-4HD SS and the 1-3 CQ/T at 300: Again I apologize for the lousy pics, all the scopes looked much better than that in real life. In actual use, at 300 yds I found there was naturally a pretty big difference between the 1-3 CQ/T and the 1-4 SS, bigger than I would have thought. But there is yet another really big step up from the 1-4 to the 1-6's. That's enough more magnification to make a real difference in how easy it is to use. I haven't had them beyond 300 yet, but with that much difference at 300 there's no doubt the 1-6X is a much better tool for longer distances. Optics-wise, the 1-6X24HD's are very good. At 1X they almost as good as the 1-4X as far as eye placement, "looking through an empty tube effect," etc. Though I didn't have them handy for a side by side from memory I'd say they're as good as the 1-4 S&B shortdot and better than the 1-4 NF I used to have in that respect, but the 1-4 SS does hold a slight edge. I didn't have any other 1-6's to compare optics on 6X, but when set to 4X and compared with the 1-4 SS the glass is definitely better in the 1-6X at that power and everybody knows how good the 1-4HD's glass is. I'll have to wait until I get my hands on some other 1-6X's to see how they compare there.

I love it. I was looking hard at one but I wound up going with this for my Larue predatAR: Pride & Fowler CQLR 1-4 So far it's been excellent.

Stop-it!
I've been strong, and held out buying one of these for a year, you're pushing on me mister!
That's the carbine scope to beat all other carbine scopes, in my opinion.
