we leased a small piece of property in rock island texas. I only was able to have the feeders out for around a month before the season and after a couple weeks i was seeing tons of deer on my cameras. Several nice bucks, and a bunch of small ones. Now that the season has started, i have not seen one damn buck on my cameras and have seen around a quarter of the deer i was seeing before the season. What do yall think is going on? To much pressure? too hot? Hogs? Also, does anyone know when the rut is in colorado county?

Look on TPWD website somewhere on there they show the rut for the differant regions in Texas. I hunt in Fort Bend county and it shows the rut to be in October. Right now for me all the shooter deer are coming out between 1am and 4am. Small deer during the morning.

im thinking of putting up a hog pen around my feeders.... i have seen millions of hogs and am thinking this could be part of the reason i am not seeing as many deer.

The main rut is around the middle of October in Colorado County. What happened to you is that the acorns started falling right before the season opened. When acorns fall hardly any attractant works. All you can do is hope the acorns rot or are all eaten before the end of the season. It may get better later this year.

My bucks disappeared for about a month then showed back up. (Foard County) Had me worried to for a while. Does have been more one week and lots less the next. This weekend I had more does than I've ever seen for some reason. May be pressure on other properties causing them to come back in. Just wait, it will happen.

My cousin in halletsville actually said the same thing.... he said he wasnt even going to hunt this year because of acorns. It was just so sudden, i was seeing tons of deer for weeks and then one day they were gone. Seems so sudden just because of acorns. I guess i will just keep going as much as i can in hopes of having one walk by. It just sucks to sit there for a couple hours and not see anything when i know there are tons of deer in the area. I guess i wont put up the hog fence either.

I'd still put up the hog fence. Keep them away from the feeders so they won't spook the deer plus it may make them eat up more acorns in the area and hopefully that'll bring the deer back in. Can't hurt thats for sure. Good luck!
