My lease has goats on it and the land guy used to take them off or pen them when we hunted but not this season. I want a pen that will keep them out but not get their head stuck. What kind of wire should I use? Any advice on keeping goats away from feeder would be great.

Last pen I did to keep goats from getting their horns stuck was regular cattle panels and we wrapped 36 inch chicken wire around the outside and tied it up with rebar wraps. Rebar wraps will last a lot longer than just plain old plastic tie wraps, because the UV rays won't weaken the rebar ties. So far it is working well.

Good luck I fought them for better than three years. The only thing I found that would work was 2X4 welded wire with a strand of barb wire top and bottom. Even with that, one would bounce off a tree and jump in and do the same to get out. Like I said GOOD LUCK

Have you had any trouble with shooting through the chicken wire? The reason I ask is because I shot at a nice buck a few years ago and hit a wire on a fence. I felt like I made a good shot and have it on video but split the wire and think it messed with my bullet before it made contact. Chicken wire is thin though so if you have not had problems I'll take your word for it.

Honker Jake, I dunno, I built it for a customer whose pen had washed out. This is it, before we wrapped the wire.

But, you are right, the chicken wire isn't the problem, it's the panel wire. I can't begin to tell ya how many panels I've seen, as well as feeder legs, that have had bullets go through them. Even though your bullet is supposed to end up where the cross hairs are, remember that bullet is not going the same path as your line of sight.

That particular ranch had it all, goats, sheep, horses and cows, which is what made the cattle panels and then the chicken wire necessary.

WE have goats on our place or we did. we use 4"x4" x 16'cattel panel cut the cattel panle in 1/2. Making it 24" x 16'raise the panel up about 8" from ground. then we use one strand of wire at the bottom to keep there heads from going under.it will be about 32" high. we have never had goats or sheep get in. some of the guys put another strand at the top. i dont like it on top as deer get there legs hung in it if they dont jump high and clear of the wire.
By useing 4" x 4" they can not get here head in the opening.
