I have a friend who hunts west of Garden City close to 158 and they were rutting pretty hard a week ago.

I'm not far from Garden City, and the primary rut is pretty much finished...they are still looking for receptive doe though, and responding to rattling/calling pretty well...good luck. Do you know what ranch you are going to be hunting?

Believe it or not, the hunting is much easier now that the rut is over. That country is wide open, and it's hard to hunt any particular deer when they are running since there is a good chance they will travel so far in a short period of time. Let us know how it goes.

You are mistaken sir...there are not big bucks in that area...hardly more than spikes...probably need antler restrictions...now stop talking and move along, nothing to see here.

That is correct, there are no deer in West Texas.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

There are good deer in this area you just have to be on a well managed ranch, most hunters in this area are (if it's brown it's down).

Thats right, it's shot out I wouldn't even consider hunting out this way.

LMAO.

I've hunted a little in that area, the deer are tiny.....

That area is (was, grin) a real sleeper area for BIG bucks. Next to S. Texas I think that area is a man's best chance for taking a 150+ deer.

Bill

I live and hunt south of Colorado City and the rut has just about finished for the first run it seems. There are still a few receptive does but seems the little bucks are chasing them at least south of Loraine...We usually see another flare up of the rut though right before Christmas it seems...Good luck at Garden City there are some good deer there shoot a lot and chase em east to C. City.....lol
