Blackeyed peas are like a drug to deer. They can't stay away from the stuff seriously.

I would plant wheat, oats, rye grass, and winter pea mix. This will grow all winter long!!
After the first frost, pinto's and black eye's will be done.

squiggy is right about the blacke eyed peas being a warm weather legume. They are great forage during the late summer and early fall. For something cheap and easy go to a local feed store and get some winter peas. They are just as addictive to the deer and they will grow great throughout the winter. Thats my suggestion.

Double what he said. Blackeyed peas and Purple Hull Peas are unreal how well they attract deer. We use to run them off with the tractor and they would be back within the hour.

Throw some turnip greens in with the peas or beans. They are an excellent winter forage!

Use a lawn tiller. If you dont have one maybe you could borrow or rent one. that would be good enough to brake up the ground. Then just spread your seed using a lawn spreader then just drag a chain link fence over it with a couple bricks on top. that will have you ready to go.

Then I would go with wheat, oats, and rye grass.
Just remember this, if you plant beans and or peas, once they come up and the deer eats or bites the top off, it's done. Then the first frost will knock'em in the dirt, but not with wheat, oats and rye.
Another thing, since it's a small place, go by your local feed store. I've never seen a feed store where there wasn't a busted bag. See if you can get the "sweepings". That's the seed laying on the floor. Then you wouldn't have buy a full bag of each. A lot of times, I can get some clover mixed in as well. One place I went to, I got a 50 lb bag of wheat that they swept up for only 2 bucks!!!
