After Thanksgiving dinner, loaded the kids and headed to the lease to spend with my mother, father and sisters family. We have spent Thansgiving weekend this way for as long as I can remember and it is a tradition that I am excited to share with my kids.

My sister has grown up in a family of hunters, but was never interested. A few years back she started dove hunting and one thing led to another until 3 years ago I was blessed enough to be with her when she shot her first doe. She has shot a few since then and decided this year, she wanted a buck. My BIL decided to let her have his trophy this year if she got the chance. We gave it a valiant effort, but was unable to get her on a nice buck this weekend. She was a trooper but the events of the weekend left her tired and she decided to sleep in this morning. Without her with me and having wind issues, I gave up the bow and took the rifle to the open country in hopes of finding a doe or nice buck.

First light showed 7 doe and this buck. Wishing she was with me, knowing it would have been a heck of a first buck, I went ahead and took this cull. She is planning on spending a little time up there in December and hope we can get her on a good one

Kids left last night to head home with my mother, so didn't have either of them with me. We all had a great time and I am thankful for a great family, a great place we can all go and do what we love.

On the hoof, I had him aged around 5.5-6.5. Jaw shows 4.5.

They don't follow me around like they do him. Open country, our cows don't bother the deer...unless they are staring at you bellowing at the top of its lungs like they do to stinky

Thanks!!! It is a sweet shooting gun and nice and clean. One of the smoothest guns I have shot. Let my cousin take a buck with it when he was 12 and as I said, my sister loves it too. Very accurate and I shoot 185 grain bullets, which are pretty flat.

Gun is not for stalking though. I can't remember the length of the barrel, but the gun is long and fairly heavy. Took it on a mule deer hunt in the Davis mountains and after 5 days of lugging it, I was ready for my 30-06.
