I came across this Blog with videos of the British pointer field trials. Not sure how this compares with the US, but forum members might find it interesting. It's sponsored by a dog food company, hence there are a lot of adverts in the video. http://keankennel.wordpress.com/photos-video/Longwinger

They sure put a premium on quartering. Myself I would much rather see a dog show his intellegence and experience by going to likely cover, but the Ideal/Model for their dogs is much different than ours. Our Ideal race happens in a cone to the front with dog going to cover not running back and forth in front at minimal distance. Dogs flaging on point, laying down, and pointers that sit. Moving them in to the birds, almost pushing them to flush.
I watched it twice and still don't understand their style of hunting. Nor do I like it, not sure I saw a dog I could feed year round...............

I know what you mean. I have a friend in Croatia that has very nice GSP. He sends me videos of his dogs competing in the European Championship. The claim is that these are the best in the world. Again all they do is quarter back and forth. Some of the points are very long distance, but it's nothing like the hunting we do in the US. In his country he says that there are migratory quail(?), the rest are released pheasant and partridge. So the hunting isn't very challenging, it seems. I would like to import a pup and find out how well it can do. Need a small fortune, but they look really good to me. Just need to get them on bobwhites or blues to really judge how great they really are.
