Put an order in for a Lil Griz live trap (for coons) on Friday. Buddy at work swears by them. I figure why buy a box-style live trap and possible have coons tear it up when I can pay (roughly) $30 and rid them one at a time ( and still have a trap left after it all said and done).

Anybody try these out? Heard said it works best with marshmellows (cheap, sweet smell and easy).

Ever use these deerfeeder? They are a little cheaper than the griz model but have any personal testimony? I didnt see any testimonies on the site - just trying to do some homework (you like that bossbuck stuff, don't you?)

I have use them for about 3 years now. Use strawberry jello mixed with miniature marshmallows. This makes sticker mess that will stick to back of trap and not fall out when coons pick it up. Also need to make sure no fire ants around, they will clean trap before coons have a chance....Good Luck texas

I use sardines. Works every single time. You have to be sure and break them up a bunch so the coons can run off with a big piece of it.

The griz is a fantastic trap which is unlikely to get anything other than coon and the occasional feral cat or skunk. I have dozens of them and love them. I trap coon here in MN during the winter when it is quite cold and the traps will keep going unless they are coated in heavy ice.

I put a strawberry marshmallow in them under the trigger and leave it at that. The mallows are full size. The mice will sometimes steal the bait, but the coon rarely can.

Do not use your feeder leg as a place to fasten the traps.

Ha...ha...yeah, I like it. I sell it. I got into it because of the free choice feeders. For keeping moisture out of the protein they can't be beat. I've gotten feedback on those traps from a couple of guys and they like them, but you need to stake them fairly well. If you don't go to the lease that much, set them up outside the pen if possible or you are liable to have starved coon carcasses in your pen. But, again, very few things are perfect. Like the Sharkteeth he sells. They work realy well to keep the coons off your feeder, but they won't keep 100% off.
