Neither of my books has the 168gr AMAX loads for 308 with 20"bbl and 1:10. I'm looking for the min and max on them using H4895. Or those of you have had successful loads, could you please share them?

You stuck on 168s and 4895.

I am running 44.8 gr varget behind a 178 amax for deer this year. Shoots sub 1/2" out of my ltr.

I have used all from Rl 22 to Varget on the 308..by far best choice has been Varget..Sometimes .05 grain reduction w/bring a
2in groups to same hole..but the powder loads well, is not affected by heat and cold as much as the others and I've not had
a 308 that didn't like it..I'm shooting 150TTSX Barnes .05 grains
less than max and getting 1in groups at 300 yds..DD

Varget likes to be pushed hard in my rifles. I have had better luck with R15 and 4895.

Never had a dog fail me yet.

End dog fighting.

With my TRG w/ 1 in 11 twish 168 grain Sierra 42.0 grains RL 15
same hole group, 48.0 Grain H 4895 130 grain Barnes X , 3Xout of 5 same hole, 46.0 gr Varget 168 grain AMax same hole 5 shots, then I shot both the Rem 700 1 in 12, 26in bbl, and the TRG 26in
bbl 168 gr AMax, Barnes, & Hornady Brass 210 Fed Match primer, 45.5 grains Varget 2 groups all one hole ea..There are times I have gone from a 2in group to same hole w/Varget by reducing by
.05 grains. At all times I have completely cleaned my weapons
down to clean dry bbls..no fowling..I hope some of this may help
you ..Don

Federal Makes a 175grain match Sierra w/match brass..I have shot in the TRG and get as good a groups or better than most handloads. You may try them w/your twist and it may be an even
better deal than the AMAX..Don

Nother vote for Varget. I have been reloading for over 30years and my best load for 168Amax is 45gr. Varget. .6 in groups all day long out of browning abolt varmint.

Set your bullet just touching the lands, then...

Varget start at 43.0gr. and work up in .3 increments up to 44.0gr. You can exceed the 44.0 but ease into it. Once you start seeing pressure signs stop.

But instead of the 168 try the 178 A-max around 44.0 gr.. Best bullet I ever shot out of a 1:10" twist .308. And it will put the smack down on steel out to a grand and any hide you put it through. I've got pics of dead bodies to prove it.

155gr bullets were my favorites in the 308 I ran the Sierra Palma's and liked them a lot but they need to run 2900 to really shine.

I am with the Fireman, load up the 178 AMAX and let em rip. I love the 178 AMAX, it hits steel good (for a 308) and it will flat out hammer the animals.

He and I have flung our share of those and they are super consistant.
