The tripple shock will expand Quick but hold together and blow through alot of bone and any thing else.

The trophy bonded(trophy bonded bear claw) will expand VERY slowly and is WAY over kill for a deer, great elk round.

In a 270wsm though I would have to suggest the 140gr accubond for hunting in Texas.

If your using the triple shock go with 130gr.

what you can expect?

With the Barnes....Hit them square on the shoulder and they will drop...or at least they do for me.

The trophy bonded....you better know how to bloodtrail because they dont open up at on deer(if your talking about the trophy bonded bear claw)

Accubonds- great compromise of controlled expansion, accuracy and knock down power, If your .270wsm with a 140gr accubond wont kill it...Then its not native to Texas.

From federal's website it seems that the trophy bonded will expand more?

I used to shoot the Trophy Bonded back when Federal offered them as a factory load for the 257 Wby Mag. I never had any problems with expansion, and it left golfball size exit wounds, but that was at ~3300fps. And as EastTxHunter pointed out, the video on Federal's website shows the TTBBC will expand slightly more than the TSX, yet still retains 90-95% of it's weight.
If I could find Trophy Bonded for my 257 Wby now, that is what I would be shooting! up

Best friend shoots a 270 wsm. Talked him into changing from the BT's to the Trophy Bonded... To say he has be highly...highley impressed, would be an understatement. Dropped a nice buck last year at about 150 witha quartering away shot... entered last rib exited back side arm pit.... with a nice soupy hole.

270WSM is a hotter caliber... I think it benefits greatly from a well built bullet like the TTSX or TBBC... which I think both federal load.

Think both bullets are very close in preformance

I agree...I think TSX only excels when A) using a smaller bullet like .223 -.243, and B) magnum loads over 3100fps.

I shot an axis buck this last weekend with a Trophy Bonded Bear Claw bullet out of my 7mag, which I knew was a little over kill, but I found a deal on the bullets and bought them. They were the 160gr bullets. I hit him 3 inches behind the shoulder. He dropped but he took about 30 min to die off. Exit wound was the same size as entry. On another note I shoot them out of my 22-250 with great results.

I wish I knew where you got them. TBBC in a .224 would be AWESOME!!! But since they don't make them anymore, they are EXTREMELY hard to find.

I bought several boxes back in 02/03. My dad is dealer and was stocking some at the time. The next best thing now is the partition but it is a 60gr bullet and does not shoot that well in my rifle.

For .270WSM try a box of Winchester Ballistic silvertip in 130Gr. Alot of calibers don't particularly like this round, but my totally stock Win Model 70 shoots sub moa with it and leaves devastating holes in anything from coyotes to 260lb hogs at distances out past 200 yards.

So what would be the best all around federal bullet for 270 wsm for ranges from 50-300 yds?

Federal premium 140gr Accubond once again would be my all around choice and if a special elk or big exotic came up it will handle it but i would switch to the TSX for BIG stuff.

No finer bullet than tsx. My .02. I run 168 Ttsx in my .300, 85gr tsx in my daughters .243 and 53gr tsx in my .220 swift.

And try 130 grain, and 150 grain. The .270 WSM ought to be DEADLY on elk with 150 grainers. Just make sure your rifle shoots them well. 1/4 inch difference at 100 yards isnt enough to sacrifice good bullet construction for accuracy. But, Don't sacrifice satisfactory accuracy just to shoot a bullet that everyone says is the best. Shoot what shoots accurately in your gun that does the job on the game you are after
