Has anyone had any luck with Berger VLD's?
Me and my cousin bought 3 100 rnd boxes for our 300 ultramags, 165 gr, using Retumbo
Started at 94 gr. and worked it back and forth up to 104 gr
Never could get a consistacy, would always throw a couple either high or low
We went in and started weighing bullets, and found maybe 20 out of 100 that weighed the same
We can shoot A-Max all day long consistant
???????
Called Berger and they didnt believe the difference in the weights
Anyone else haveing this same problem?

Heard alot of people have good luck with them. Personaly I have never seen load data for them so I have stayed away, I also think they would be a little more explosive than what I would be looking for. I would weigh them again to make double sure, contact berger again say I will send them to you to see for yourself, bag them up and send them back, at the very least I would think they should offer to give you some new bullets.

we weigh them on an RCBS electronic scale(powder scale) have even zeroed it back out to make sure, but will probably send some back to them, dont really want any more vld's, as the a max are sweet
just wish we wouldnt have spent some much time and money trying to get them to shoot, but we had heard so much about them
1 pound of powde= 87 reloads, so 3.75 lbs of powder, 300 mag primers, 300 bullets, time to prep casing, and the time it took to work up different loads, shooting(fun part)
All testing was done with a lead sled with 50's of shot to stabalize the sled

I dont know. I would never buy 3 boxes of any bullet I hadnt had good results with previously. Try different powder or something else. Did you buy a 300 ultra as a paper puncher or what? How big were the groups? Did you let gun cool between shots or groups? Im sure they will shoot, just got to get it right.

If they are really that different then double check it and send them back, im sure berger will do something, for you, be it replace, refund, tech help or whatever. Most of the time they are more than willing to do whatever they can to help you if you dont call them all pizzd off. If you are really looking for answers they have them.

I bought some 75gr Berger VLDs for the 22-243 and first load I tried is shooting groups of about 5/8 to 3/4 inch, will work on refining that load after deer season. Perhaps I got lucky. I used that bullet at 3400fps Saturday to shoot a pig that weighed only about 60lbs through both shoulders at about 40 yards and got about a 2 inch exit hole.

I also use Bergers in the 17 remington and have no complaints with them either quarter inch groups are common.

I would contact Berger again, be cordual, tell them you want to send the bullets back for them to check then send them the bullets back attention to the person you talk to. The time I called them for some information their tech was very helpful.

just loaded up some 168 Berger VLD's for my 308 for the 1st time. the ones I loaded 2.800 OAL shot about 1.5 inch group and the ones i loaded 2.855 shot just under .5 inch group. only difference was the OAL. I didn't weigh the bullets because I was happy with the preformance. I may have to now just to see.

I need to state my post a little clearer, at 100 yds,we had 1" groups, but the further out we went, thats where the tell tell signs were. At 738 yds. is where the main difference was, but we put 2 ultras side by side and switched bullets and was doing it in both guns
I wouldnt even think about hunting with the ultra less than 300 yds, hell the bullet would zip so fast they wouldnt even know if they got shot

I got some VLD's in 70GR for my .223 and I weighed about ten with 4 being 70GR and the rest varying plus or minus .3 grains which doesn't make me happy because the SGK's I have in 7MM will weigh 160GR 8 out of 1o0 times. I guess it doesn't matter if they shoot well but still.

I haven't gotten to shoot em yet, I'm still waiting for my scope to come in but I hope they will perform well

If you have a 1 inch group at 100 and a 1 inch group at 200 yards then the inconcistency of your shooting is you, not the gun, but if your gun is only cabable of shooting a 1 inch group at 100 then naturaly it is going to be bigger at 200 yards and further.

You are talkin some weird stuff. So you actualy target shot at 738 yards? I think your clarification might have made things worse.

ive used vlds in 25-06 ,.223,165gn.300win.mag. weighed them all.25cal and 22cal no more than 2 tenth diff. 165gn 30cal 7 out of 50 weighed 2-7 tenth diff. and so far my 300 shot them the best.3/4 in. at 100 yds. my 25 likes nos.balistic tips the best in all weights. go figure.

didnt say i had 1" groups at 200, said it started getting worse after 100
2 out of 5 might hit paper, then the others either fall short or high
we've been reloading since we were in our late teens, shot all of our life
my gun will shoot better than 1" groups @ 100 out to 738, with AMax, wasnt complaining about AMax, i was bitching about VLD's not shooting consistant thru my gun and the different weight of thier bullets
im just saying we can put a Sendero on one sled, and an XHR on another sled, side by side, with a box of reloaded VLD's and a box of reloaded AMax shoot 5 out of each gun and will get about the same variances from the VLD's@ longer ranges, where the AMax is consistant(so 2 different people have the same problem)
we've got steel pigs set @ 738 yds, shooting off a bench, with a lead sled, at least 4 out of 5 with the AMax, and maybe 2 out of 5 with the VLD's

I've been thinking about getting Amax for my .223 but only if the VLD's don't perform well. I ordered my scope and new trigger today so I hope I'll hit the range soon.

I'm kind of hoping the VLD's don't work so I can try some Sierra's and Hornady's. I bought some Hornady's match in 52Gr I'm gonna try too.
