Seeing as how I'm a college student, the Savage works just fine for my budget. Wasn't this on the list of "things we never talk about" from a few weeks ago? Yet it keeps coming up.

I have owned both. For the money Savage rifles are scary accurate right out of the box, Even the cheaper ones. I will add that the Remingtons are usually good to go as is. Some of the Savages need a bit of fit and finish work.

Never owned a Savage so not qualified to compare the two, and have not stayed in a Holiday Inn Express

Though I dont want one because of the stupid accutrigger and the finish out I noticed the price of the Savages are creeping up in price with some "better" guns.

I have shot a few savages over the years sighting in guns for others etc. They have all shot pretty good. The most accurate rifle I own is about a tie between a Cooper and a Remington 700 in 17 Remington. Both are sub 1/2 MOA rifles with groups often sub 1/4 MOA. Then there have been other 700s that would not shoot 2 inch groups.

This is really pretty simple. 20 years ago, Remington. Now, Savage.

I've never had a real good experience with Savages less than acceptable accuracy in a few and the one that was half way decent the famed accu-trigger would lock up on. Now that's not to say they are all bad but it's enough for me not to buy one, I like Remington enough that I'd take the chance of getting a shooter or not although I yet to personally see one that wouldn't shoot good.

I thinks the cheaper Savages give you a lot of bang for the buck.. Not sure about the higher end ones

A Savage with the Accu-trigger is a sweet shooting rifle at a good price.
I think new Remingtons come with an impossibly hard trigger pull. I replaced on in mine with a Jewel & now prefer it over my Savage.
Either can be fine tuned to your liking, but I think out-of-the-box Savages have an edge.

Savage is a great rifle and extremely accurate, the only holdback has been retained value..Whereas a Remington or Win. will hold a higher used resale value. But if one is only wanting a value to shoot with no intention of resale, it's the Savage hands down.. It is always somewhat cheaper than the Remington and will shoot as well if not better, and they have a model that has a laminated stock that is fairly pricey that's guaranteed to shoot..and they do ...DD

I can tell you this much, I recently bought a Stevens 200 (by Savage) 22-250 for my 6 year old to use as her first centerfire because I didn't want to jump off the deep end because she will be getting my custom 6mm remmy when she gets old enough to shoot it. Now I am having second thoughts about letting her have it. I dropped a Rifle Basix trigger in it (the Stevens one was horrible) and it is laying 3 shot dang near one hole groups. I am still in shock of how accurate it is for the money.
