I inherited a Remington 700 in 7mm from my grandfather. Gun sat in a closet for 30 years. No rust, looks great.

The trigger is very sticky and there is a delay after you pull to when the firing pin goes off. Seems like everything is gummed up.

What is the fix? Good cleaning? Replace the trigger and firing pin?

What am I looking at cost wise?

Start with a good cleaning, take the bolt apart, if you know how, to visually inspect the firing pin. I'm betting it's no more then gummed up lubricant and dust,

What Mike says, and I'd clean the bore really well also. It might have gummy oil in it too, and that's not good.

It's not real hard to remove a Remington trigger assembly from the action or to take the bolt apart. Soak them in a good solvent and blow them out and then use light grease where appropriate when reassembling. If you have reservations about doing this, I'll betcha a dollar there are some good youtube videos that would help you out.

If your not confident, a detail strip and clean by a gunsmith is $35 to $45, locally here in MN. I'd be surprised if it's much different where your at.

But I'd drop a new trigger in it

I use the KG cleaner for this kind of stuff, its really good on gummy grease/ dust issues. Cleaned a rem trigger last week with same issue. I would agree with BOBO, clean the pin and drop a timney in you will be way happier

Take it to the INDOOR/OUTDOOR STORE on 36. They'll probably clean it for you for a tip... and show you how...

I had a gunsmith lighten the trigger and add a custom recoil pad to my 700 ADL for around $120. But this was at least 15 years ago.

It remains the best shooter in my gun safe. I also consider it my utility gun, the one I take when the weather and overall conditions are expected to be hard on both the hunter and his gun.

If you decide to go under or @ 3 pounds I'd replace it with a trigger designed to be that light IMO
