Thinking about giving in and putting a scope on the Marlin 336. I have always liked the open sight to get on target quick, but in low light conditions it is hard to see. What are some recomendations for a low magnification scope?

I run a Weaver 1-3 power scope on my Marlin lever gun in 44 Mag. The only reason I put a scope on was to hunt pigs at night. It works very well, and the 1x power is easy to shoot with both eyes open. I put a scope mounted light on it, and wherever the rifle points the light goes with it.

I have a 336 in 30-30. I put a 2-7x32 on it and think it's perfect.

First of all, screw all those wo say scopes don't belong on lever guns. I love my set up. It's my favorite walk around rifle.
Secondly, I like hte magnification level because I can shoot with both eyes open on 2x and shoot quickly with very reasonable accuracy for a quick shot. I've also taken a little over 100yd shot at 7x and hit. My thoughts are, when you need the 7x you generall will have more time so I walk around with it set on 2x.

are your sights just plain black like the rest of the gun?

I like iron sights quite a bit, you can get some of the painted ones or like my ruger has a little brass dot on the blade that helps.

Yes they are. If there was paint on the end sight it has wore off. I did get my first open sight deer this weekend with it but, with the cloudy low light conditions it was a hard shot.

yup, 2-7x33 mounted as low as I could get it. and it is a fun rifle to work with in the truck, blind, tree stand or just walking around.

I put a 3-9x40 on my .308 Win lever action. Probably overkill for my usage but it's what I wanted.

1x4, 2x7, or 3x9 would work

Run 1.5X4, and 2X7 on the levers and some of the bolt actions. 2X7 is one of my favorite scope magnification ranges. 2X has enough field of view and exit pupil size to allow for both eyes open shooting and pick up the targets quickly.

The 11th commandment says....
THOU SHALL NOT SCOPE A LEVER ACTION RIFLE.

Just get you some better sights. There are a few makers of night sights, brass beads, stainless beads and other options. But PLEASE dont scope it. But if you must there are also several low power scope. Millet, leupold, Burris .....get a quality scope in 1x4 2x7 or similar. I run a 1.5x6 Burris on my 6.8 AR.

Glad I only pay attention to the 10 Commandments and not some 11th Commandment. bolt

Sometimes the need for a scope is not for the ability to hit the target but to see it better.

I put a 3-9x40 on my son's Winchester '94 .30-30. It was his first rifle.

I have an old redfield 4x on my old Marlin 35 rem. I like it alot. Took a nice 10 pt buck with it this season. I'd say go for the scope unless its one of the old waffle tops, then I'd hate to drill the extra holes in that vintage rifle.

Dude, scope it and forget the haters hatin'. The most suggested route would be to get a 4x32 or similar. A fixed scope will let the most light through. But, if your gun likes the Hornady LeveRevolution rounds and you feel like it, put on something a little stouter like a 3X9-40 and dial it in at 200yds, and make your friends raise an eyebrow at your audacity, then show them your full freezer ;-)

Han Solo would scope his lever gun. Just saying.
