I bought a Marlin 336 30-30 last week. I have only shot it about 10 times. It is shooting about 6 inches right. I can not figure out how to adjust it to shoot dead on. I have no desire to put a scope on it. I want this to be my brush gun. Any suggestions?
I avoid Dick's and hope they fold.

Does it have the graduated sight on the rear, like a BB gun might have? The way to adjust them depends on the type of sight you have.

Just looked up the website and yours has the same sights as my Winchester. They are crap. Replace the rear graduated/semibuckhorn sight if you can with a peep sight or a good ladder sight; anything else is better.
To adjust this sight system, if your round is impacting to the right 6 inches of your point of aim, you'll use a nylon or brass hammer or punch and tap the front sight to the right a little bit. (It's sits in a dovetail so it will slide but you might have to put a little arse into it to get it to move) Fire 3 or 5 rounds, check your point of impact and readjust as needed.
Just remember if your point of impact is to the right of your point of aim, your front sight needs to be adjusted to the right to bring the point of aim to the point of impact.
This only works for gun with adjustable front sights. Something like and M-16 has the windage adjustment in the rear sight only so this wouldn't work for them.

If your gun is shooting to the right, don't you want to tap the front sight to the left?????
I could be wrong on that, but it seems like I remember somthing from the French and Indian War, that you tap your front sight the direction you want the bullet to go, and tap the rear sight in the opposite direction to get your windage adjusted properly??????

If it's the REAR sight that must be adjusted, then it would be moved to the left. The front sight is always adjusted TOWARD the point of impact.
I'll find a link.

Can we try a little experiment??? I know it is off topic, but humor me, I am old. 1st. Go back and look at my post on how I thought the adjustment needed to be made. 2nd. Look at the post directly under mine made by WyattT. 3rd. Look under WyattT's post and there is yours. 4th. Now look at my response, under your post and notice whom I was responding to, WyattT, not you. 5th. The you respond back to me with this: Quote:
Ha ! Alot of what I say don't sound right to you!
Now, this is a classic example of Why and How threads jump the track.
Instead of noticing that someone else had posted something or who I was responding to, you assumed I was responding to you, when I wasn't.
This has been a long time fight starter on the site.
We get to just responding down the page, but then someone else jumps into the conversation, we see their response and we respond back to them.
In the intervenning time betwen posts, someone else has responded then a response comes up that is directed at them unintentionally, but because of the way the conversation has been going, they end up getting a fresponse and misconstruing it and where it came from and why.
My comment about not understanding was in response to WyattT, not you.
Now back to the topic at hand, I thought that the front sight was moved in the direction you wanted the bullet to go, and the rear sight moved in the opposite direction.

Ok, the only link I could find that explained it plainly was Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_sightIt's almost at the bottom on the right hand side. A little graphic to help visualize it.

Thanks for posting the link, I just had it backwards.
It has been a while since I dealt with a gun with iron sights to any extent.
I also hope you noticed my response to your earlier post and can see why topics get out of hand so quick sometimes.

YW for the link, Crazyhorse.
I did read the threads before mine and I was not in the wrong in anyway. I responded to the challenge of my advice. Whether you were talking ONLY to WyattT is irrelevent. You challenged my advice and his recognition of it.
You took this thread got off track when you said:
"Can we try a little experiment???
I know it is off topic, but humor me, I am old."
So, yes I see how this thread got off topic. You took it off topic to try and prove that someone else was the cause of it getting off track.
I get the feeling my opinion doesn't count for much with you and I get the feeling you resent me and my personality.
Hopefully, I'm way off and you just like the arguments.
Either way, it would be nice to see a little more tolerance from you, and a few others on the site, with people like me and take a little responsibility for your own derailing of the thread.
You can PM if you'd like to discuss it more. I'm always open to finding common ground and getting to know each other.

No need in pm'ing you.
I wasn't challenging you, I was just mistaken and I admitted to it.
As I stated it has been some time since I messed with a rifle with open sights and simply thought the sights were moved opposite to the way they really are.
I made a mistake wasn't my first, won't be my last.
As for my post taking this Off Topic I was just trying to make a point about one way fights get started, you aren't open minded to that, so have a good day.

Ok, I'll relax. It may not seem like it to you but I am open to more than you might realize. It's the way I perceive your attitude through your words. The translation that is lost through typing is to blame for alot of this problem. I took your statement as a deference of responsibility and it irked me. Since that was not your intention, I apologize for the miscommunication.
