I could limit out on turkeys every year at our lease but I don't because I haven't found any good recipes for cooking the breast. Please give me some good simple recipes that I can cook at camp or at home.

i like cutting in strips and chicken frying the best. but i also cut in cubes, season with salt, pepper, and garlic, wrap a piece of bacon around it. and skewer with chunks of onion and jalapenos. makes pretty good kabobs.

Do you grill it or pan fry it? Won't the ice melt when you cook it?

As is! heat tends to water it down. Too many of these and that rhino could be BAD combination!!!

I love to take bacon and put it on foil, lay turkey brest on bacon, spread 1 package of cream cheese on top of breast, put sliced up jallapio peppers on top of that, more bacon on top and wrap up and bake for about an hour. Have done the same thing, but replaced the peppers with crushed pinapple and liked it real well to. with both save the left overs for sandwiches the next day.

We have also made turkey and dumplings, turkey fajitas, and even used the drum sticks in gumbo.

Breast out turkey & place in freezer.
Wait 1 year.
Discard.

If I do not do what is above, plan B is fried turkey tenders.

Barney is onto something as well. These other recipes are also looking good up

I was surprised how good the jerky I made was from my spring gobbler. Breasted out, much easier than red meat to cut into thin strips - no fat/grissle/sinew to trim out. I plan on taking a few this year just for jerky. If you don't make jerky this probably doesn't help much...

-take one side of breast and butterfly (1/2" to 1" thick)
-marinate in Tony's creole butter close to 30min.
-sprinkle to taste with Tony's cajun shake
-grill on med/high heat baste and sprinkle as needed

Try not to let the breast dry out. I think that's the biggest key cooking one this way. food

I have had it boiled in chicken broth (the carton style), shred it, add celery, carrots and dumplings. up Tastes just like chicken n' dumplings. It's an easy recipe for a weekend at the deer lease. You need the breasts from 2 turkeys.

Edit Reason: This works for squirrels and ducks too!

I use the same "Mesquite Pit Roasted" recipe that also works with Javelina.

Dig a small pit in the ground. About 3'x3' will work. Start a fire and throw in about 10-12 good size pieces of well seasoned mesquite wood and let cook down to just coals. While that is cooking down, de-bone your turkey, season with salt, pepper, cheyenne, and cummin. Rub in well. cover in sliced oranges and double wrap in heavy duty foil. Place foil packages right on coals and cober with a piece of corrigated tin. Shovel dirt back into the pit, totally covering the tin. Make sure you cover it completely, and make sure that no smoke can escape.

Then "NEVER" come back!! clap

Go to the fridge and make yourself a sandwich cause wild turkey sucks!!!!

I want to thank all of you for the recipes. I killed a big Tom last week and we tried the chicken fried turkey fingers and it was very good. In fact I am at work eating the leftovers as I type. The wife and daughter also liked it so it looks like I will be limiting out on turkeys from now on. We have an over abundance of them on our lease. I saw 25 turkeys at one of the feeders during a hunt last week.
We will also try some of the other suggestion.

Thanks,
TB
