do you legally have to have to fire a firearm during deer season? I'm wondering if there is an acreage minimum to legally deer hunt with a rifle seems like I've heard 10 acres but Im not sure. popcorn

there is no minimum, at least not in any of my counties, but i think that there are some counties that require so much land... its a BS rule.

Here you go

hunt in a subdivision with lots 10 acres or less in an unincorporated area of a county if the commissioners court, by order, prohibits the discharge of a firearm or the use of archery equipment in such subdivisions. (Contact local county clerk and ask about 235.022, Local Government Code.)

Also, if your land is within a Homeowner's Association (HOA), they may restrict you from using a firearm and archery equipment or any type of hunting even though the county or state may allow it, they can be more restrictive, just not less.

We receive quite a few of these calls and emails here at work from folks looking to purchase land, mainly to hunt on.

If it's your land and you're not in any incorporated city limits, whose business is it?

Friend, I wouldn't harm thee for all the world, but thou art standing where I am about to shoot.

Min is 10 and you better make sure the bullet does not cross the fence line or your nieghbor good press charges on you. For it is against the law for any projectile to cross fence lines without permision from the land owner.

If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

that is NOT TRUE!!!!! i lived on 6.4 acres, and it is NOT ILLEGAL for me to shoot any gun i want to on that land, and i ahave no problem keeping my projectiles within my 6.4 acres!!! except one time when i was about 12 and i shot a bird off my tank dam, and the pellets came down on my neighbors house.... they called the deputy.... he told me "dont do that again" i said yessir lol.

where are u getting this ten acre min rule?

I don't believe there is minimum acreage state wide. The state did pass a law allowing counties to regulate this, but it is up to the county. There are some counties that have enacted ordinances for rural subdivisions and some HOA's have rules that limit gun and hunting. From what I have read most of the ordinances and HOA rules have been established because of a few people ignoring common sense, or just plain being stupid.

Personally I would not want to live in an area of 10 acre tracts knowing that each one had people deer hunting on them. I think it is to small of pieces of property to safely hunt on, it is to easy for bullets to ricochet, I would be scared someone could get hurt or killed. No deer or anything is worth enough to me to take a chance on hurting or killing someone.

Check with a county commissioner. Also check with the sheriff's office, it is better to check with as many places as possible because sometimes the answers are wrong.

ASK A GAME WARDEN! best way to get the truth. I had one tell me could NOT hunt with any gun on land under ten acres. may only be a county law too tho?
