I have seen that too. If you can't track it don't shoot it. Although most of those guy's seem to prefer it going on the wall and not in the freezer.

It's mostly been bow hunters I've seen doing that.
I'm going to google a recipe for horns and see if there's one yet.

For me it would also depend on the temp outside. That being said, I'd track all night

Any thing left on the ground here is gone in three to four hours. Coyotes, small varmints, and fire ants. It is even difficult to impossible to find the horns. Gone!
Hunting shows are total BS, sell a product BS!

Its always upset me that they will leave it and act like they didn't. I saw one show not to long ago where the hunter said that "he got out of his stand and walked right up to it" The guy could have stood the deer up and leaned it against a tree it was so stiff.
Even if the deer is "wall worthy," the animal is still good eating but its obvious that some dont care.

Some times people make bad shots and its better to wait and find the deer in the morning rather than push the deer and not find it at all!
I have never had to wait untill the next morning to find a deer, but I have been with others that had to!
Sometimes waiting is the right thing to do, but only as a last resort!

I agree that sometimes there are circumstances where it is best to wait it out. However I also feel like some of the tv hunters have to go drink a few and "it'll be there in the morning".

That's my deal with those guy's. It's like they are saying " I'm in Montana and now I gotta fly to Texas for a hunt". Good work if you can get it

i know this isnt exactly what u are referring to, but at my uncles old lease, they had this mexican guy that would do all the work, and if we shot a deer, we would gut it, and he would skin them, but if it was shot in the evening, hed wait till the next morning to skin it all out, but it was always in the cooler when we woke up, and we neveer got food poisoning.

Wouldn't the meat be spoiled by then? Yeh but hunters on TV shows seem to be more concerned about antlers than venison anyway.

I shoot most if my deer in the head, they still have corn in their mouths and usually the eye balls are popping out, almost like they are saying "whasssss upieeee".
I don't really have to track my deer. =)

I am a bonafied, certified hardcore carnivore meat hunter and horn hunters IMO, to me are vein braggers who should appreciate the real reason deer hunting was "invented" and that was to appreciate the venison. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so cherish the horns and give me the meat. Don't be hatin my post, after all, I'm not the one who admnitted to not caring about the meat but more about the horns.

My dad has one but we still ate the meat off the deer. Horns are nice however just because it has horns doesn't mean that the meat doesn't matter. I know that this weekend if I see a nice legal deer (over 13, spike, or doe) arrows will fly mostly because this is only my second year to bow hunt and I want to ground check something... even if it is a doe.

i feel pretty close to u bigdaddy, ive never hunted for horns, but at the same time ive never hunted for meat, simply because i have plenty of good lookin steers sittin out there that taste better than any ole deer. i hunt purely for the hunt, i love the hunt, i like to ratl in bucks, and grunt em close. i like to throw a bleat out and get a bunch of does within arms reach. So for the 100% meat hunters... if u saw a 180 class buck that was skinny, and a spike that was thick as hell, which one would u drop, id drop the 180 in a heart beat lol.

I found a doe that had been left over night in 4 degree weather...It still had a strong smell. The sooner the internal organs can be removed the better...IMO

I hunt because I love eating wild game. That being said if I have just a little meat in the freezer and a good doe walks out at 20 yards and a nice 8 point walks out at 35 I know which one I am shooting at and it ain't the doe.

I think leaving it overnight is fine, IF the temperatures are freezing. I know in Texas that doesn't happen too often. As far as seeing stiff deer on a hunting show, Those deer are almost never found and shown on camera right away. The producers make sure all blood is cleaned up, and tongues aren't hanging out. This is to prevent anti-hunters from complaining about the treatment of the animal, as well as to encourage people who haven't hunted before to try it instead of possibly getting grossed out.

Im a straight up meat hunter. My policy in the woods is, "If it's legal, it's dinner."
