I am fairly new to bowhunting, and cant decide to keep hunting with mechanicals or go to fixed. I'm hunting in East Tx for deer and hogs, and have been told mechanicals wont penetrate hogs. Any suggestions?

This is like asking which caliber of gun is better. I will give you my thoughts so keep that in mind. LOL I started shooting bows about 18 years ago with a friend from school. We both elected to shoot the Spitfire mechanical's because we were having a heck of a time with regular broadheads shooting from our cheap bows. I have shot numerous deer with my bow over the past years and have had no problems with the mechanical's at all. My first deer with a bow was a huge 10 pointer down in south texas. I mis-judged my yardage and he jumped the string and the arrow hit what of his butt cheeks! The arrow went all the way thru the deer and came out under his belly. It took some time tracking him but we did recover him. I am going to try these this year. They seem to have the best of both worlds. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores...0002000_450-2-3As far as shooting hogs with the mechaqnicals. My buddy has killed many with the Spitfires.

For hogs, just try'em. Then if it doesn't work for ya, no big deal. It's just a hog. I've never shot mechs. With a fixed head, I never ever have to worry about if it opens, doesn't open, or collaspes upon entry.

There have been a ton of deer killed with mechanicals and there will be a ton more killed before it's all said and done, but... a mechanical broadhead is just what it says, a mechanical device. Have you ever seen a mechanical device that didn't eventually fail? Sooner or later it's going to fail. It might be only 1 out of 10,000 times, but do you want to risk that 10,000th time being the one time you have a Booner in your sights?

If you want a broad head that truly flies like a practice tip, you cant go wrong with Slick Trick. If it ain't broke, don't fix it !

I shoot a Rage and G5 Tekan II both with great success. Have not had a problem with either of them opening pre-maturely and both have great entry and exit holes. Used on deer and hogs.
