I'd have to go with Jim Brown for just down right tough, I've seen him go 10 yards with 3 people hanging on him. For durability I'd have to go with Bob Lilly, he'd break bone's in a game and still never miss a play.

Jack Lambert on defense and no one will ever have the toughness or heart that Walter Payton had, never. Y'all do realize that most of his career he absolutely no line to play behind yet he still got his yards by running over guys much bigger than him.
