Weatherby’s got a side by side now. Straight stock, two triggers, extractors. Looks like real world price is around $900. As far as I understand it’s a Yildiz gun with a steel reciever, I wonder if there are other upgrades made to the gun for Weatherby.

Anyway I don’t know much about cheap doubles other than the internet consensus is they are all trash. But I don’t think Weatherby puts their name on trash, I could be wrong. It is also not a dirt cheap gun, more mid price as far as guns go but still a bargain price for a side by side.

Sorry i just wanted to get my thoughts out there so you understand my thoughts and what kind of information I am looking for. Anybody got any experience to share?

Very interesting. I'll have to look i t up.
And as to cheap doubles (from Turkey) being trash, I'm plum tickled with my Huglu-built CZ Bobwhite G2 in 28 gauge, which comes in just over $600.

Been eyeballing that color case hardened CZ side by side for awhile. I appreciate it.

I'll take a look. Sounds interesting. I own a 28 and 20 G2 CZ Bobwhite. They have been great field guns for me. I know many look down on Turkish made guns, but I have nothing but praise for these two.

28 gauge is what I really want. I don’t think Weatherby is offering the side by side in 28 gauge.

I could see maybe a CZ or even a Yildiz. But the Weatherby is what i really like.

I am also looking at some older used Merkel side by sides with minor cosmetic issues at a sub-$1,000 price point. But all are 12 gauge.

Maybe even an old Russian Baikal if the barrels are properly regulated. I have a Baikal single shot that has been to hell and back.

I had a Baikal 12 gauge sxs. It worked fine. However, I had to keep it well oiled. For some reason it would develop rust very quickly. I live in a relatively dry low humidity area. I learned to wipe it down immediately after every outing.

I had a Stoeger Upland in 20 gauge for a number of years. Was not a fancy gun by any means and would not win any beauty contests, but I shot that gun better than I have any other shotgun I own. Currently looking for a 28 gauge O/U or SxS

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Tha Baikals are well-built if kinda homely. 10 Gauge, be sure to handle and shoulder the German guns. The only one I ever owned had a stock design that was simply abusive.

I handled a few of the CZ side by sides last week at Bass Pro. They are made by Huglu. Fairly nice guns at a price point.

Also handled a super cheap o/u at Dunhams that was like $300 someodd. Almost bought a stoeger coach gun supreme there also cheap-ish but i mentioned something about the wife using it, and he went off about straw purchases and federal agents frequent his store. It’s not like i am buying a gun and giving it to the wife.

Will this come to a point that no one else is allowed to touch your gun until it is transferred through an FFL? Good grief.

I still don’t know what to go with. I have time, putting it off at least long enough to close on the house and buy a few furnishings. 43 years old and just now finally buying a home. Nice little place out in the country, about 5 acres down in a holler. Closing this week! Seems like a dream come true, I am so scared to jinx it.
