Looking for a cheaper gun for my wife. Ran across a Hatfield at Walmart. Does anyone know anything about them. My wife likes to dove hunt but shoots at 4-5 birds a trip and then quits and watches everyone. Maybe a little duck hunting but same type of thing

Budget? Cheaper means different things to different people.

I bought a 20ga as a dove gun for my wife on a whim. The machining looks like it was gnawed out with teeth, it feels like it's made out of recycled hot wheels cars, and I had to fix the trigger group right out of the box to keep the loading gate from falling whenever I'd drop the bolt. YMMV

I wouldn’t fuss with a Hatfield. The bottom budget gun in my mind is the Maverick 88. On a Maverick budget, buy a Maverick pump.

Next step up, Mossberg 500 pump. My wife’s is an older North Haven CT Mossberg 500 bantam. Has a 20” barrel with screw in choke tubes, light and handy and fun to shoot.

I really never moved up from a Mossberg pump to be honest. I hunted strictly with a mossberg pump for years until I picked up bow hunting. I am looking at some side by sides though. Definitely don’t buy a cheap double barrel.

I had a Weatherby SA20. It was great, light and handy and cheap. Fun to shoot. Initially got it for my daughters but too much recoil for them at the time. Adult son liked it so I let him have it.

Maverick 88 is fine and there's one or a Mossberg 20 ga. in the classifieds here.

Pass the gravy.

Might want to look at Yildiz at academy. For a budget shotgun, I've been happy with mine.

Bought one for my son. Biggest piece of junk and worst firearm purchase I’ve ever made. Spent a few hours trying to get it to feed right, but at the end of the day the machining and parts were so far out of tolerance it wouldn’t feed right. Friends son uses it as a single shot, now. Don’t waste your time or money.

Look at Stoeger. Pretty sure they’re owned/made by benelli and share a lot of parts and operating systems. I’ve had zero issue on any of mine and I’ve owned/own 3 so far.
