I won’t be able to hunt this weekend so my season is over. I had a really great season this year with a lot of quality hunts. I guided my first ever hunts with Rock House Ridge out of Coleman and hope to do more next year. My dog Rally took over for Kimber this year as my main dog and was an absolute joy to hunt with and has no quit in her. I didn’t take photos of every hunt but here are a few from the season. Can’t wait until September!

Sure wish I could get on a good wood duck hunt, we don’t have any on any of the ponds/lakes I hunt.

Went on a trip outside of Winnie over the weekend, the late Friday night heavy heavy rains scattered the birds everywhere. There were ducks flying but they had no interest in coming into the spread, one duck was shot, and Sunday 2 ducks were shot. There was just so much water everywhere from it raining all week long.

Had a Great season ,but is was a tough one to stay on birds. I hunted about 65 days counting all 16 days of early teal. With the drought, saltwater killing the veggies left in the ponds & then the big rains ,birds were moving around alot. We still managed to take good numbers of birds over the season ,but took alot of 1:30 wakeups to get to them on time. All on public except for a handful of hunts. A good friend invited me to hunt up on his place in Arkansas last 2 days & we had 2 good shoots there. Limited yesterday & half limits mon. It was a fun trip to another state.

Overall my best season but the last 2 weeks (from freeze on) was tough. But we did some extreme things to see what would come of it. Met some new friends that should make the coming years even better...Forming a "team" to scout and stay on them.

My hats off to you guys who hunt almost exclusively public water. I don’t know if I could do it…

We had a good year. Early season we took advantage of hunting traffic birds before they got stale and let the concentration of squealers and bluewings build in the reservoir we hunt. When the hunting slowed down we hammered on the squealers we had let sit for a month untouched and it showed.... We could shoot 2-4 limits worth of squealers and the survivors would simply land in a hole 30 yards away to be hunted another day. I think I had one or two days total in southeast Texas that we didn't shoot full limits of birds (private land). I made a few trips north to hunt mallards on public land, out of 16 days we killed full limits of greenheads nine of the days, limits of ducks an additional three days, and got our butts handed to us for 3 or 4 days which is not terrible all things considered.

If anyone knows of a good used 3/4 ton gas truck for sale let me know... my 5.3 finally gave up the ghost as I made my way back south on Sunday.

Our best hunts were public this season. I'm on a lease now and dec. was ok but Jan sucked. We only hunt it on weekends and on average I'm there every other weekend.

We shot several 4/5 man limits this year on public.

Thanks! It seemed most days we spent 3 times as long getting to and from the spot than we spent hunting.
