Watched the first episode. I'm not sure how I feel about the actors right now but being a history guy, I appreciate the little details. Can't say how accurate it was but I liked how they did the pre flight and post take off checklist. Made it more authentic.

The series is obvipusly going to be but a whiff of the book, which is but a whiff actual history, but i did enjoy the first two episodes. Gonna get more intense and show a side of history many dont know about.
The book is over 400 pages of details. No way to write that all into a 8-10 episode series.

Enjoyed the first 2 episodes.
I have a feeling that people who don't know about the history of the B-17 and the plane/crew mortality rate will be shocked by the time this series is over.

I just looked up the hardback version of the book....all well over $100 for one. They must not have printed very many. The paperback is $17 on amazon.

Paperback for me. I am not creating a hundreds year library…. There are certain books I like to have hardback. History, and/or fictional history are one of them.

I did not realize how bad the mortality rate was until I read the book. The Army Airforce lost more men over Europe than the USMC lost in the Pacific. I'm quoting from memory but it was something like this. Bomber crewmen had about a 1 in 4 chance of dying per mission. You were flying every day or every couple of days. It started to really bother some of the crewmen with a feeling of hopelessness. The match is going to catch up with you. The book does a good job of explaining. We've already seen some of the fear in the series. "The frighteningly high attrition rate in the Bloody 100th meant the chance of surviving a tour of 25 missions was close to zero. But anywhere in the Eighth Air Force was a dangerous place to be: 73% of the men who flew were casualties, either injured or killed." https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...-real-heroes-of-spielbergs-new-war-drama

Kind of amazing they didn’t have more people refuse to go up. Its a relatively unknown pirtion of WWII because it wasnt glamorous, headliner, or splashy enough. The slow dirty work of bombing the infrastructure of germany to ebb the tide of war while suffering immense losses…i am glad we have much better technology nowadays….i still wonder if this generation would have the gumption to do what they (the greatest generation) did in WWII….i certainly hope we don’t need to find out

I would've of course preferred a miniseries on my grandpa's 15th Air Force in Italy or B-24s instead of B-17s, but I'm glad they made it and I try to support anything in the genre. It took a lot of guts to do what they did, and the strategic bombing campaign really did make a difference. I don't think Americans minded the British bombing at night as much as they make it out in the show, it meant the Germans had to be on alert around the clock. My grandpa's bomb group had someone go fly at night and bomb with radar periodically just to keep the Germans on their toes.
