No big deal, just take your prep like directed, don't get to far from the bathroom, be ok with the guy sticking the hose up your arse wanting to talk afterwards.

Get some Zinc Oxide Cream/Ointment (diaper rash cream will work) and apply liberally around the exit port before the first dose of the prep and after each discharge. Sure does good to prevent a bad case of the red a$$.
As for drinking the stuff, mix it into some gatorade of the allowed color and have it really cold, ice crystal cold as it helps with the taste.
No biggie, I had to do one every year for 5 years. You got this.

After the prep, it’s all downhill.

had my first one this year. Did the tablets. No issue, wasnt bad, worst part of all of it was just fasting for day. Procedure itself was nothing.

My second was Monday of last week. I wish I had heard the Zinc Oxide Cream recommendation before. Some parts tend to get a little tender after a several trips to the toilet.

I woke up during my 2nd one last summer. Only thing I remember is lifting my head, seeing my guts on the screen, and watching three masked bandits all turn and look at me simultaneously like I just caught them in the crime of the century...

Went back night night after that.

As long as one wasn't kicked back having a cigarette I guess it went alright.

I'm on the yearly schedule now that they found and removed polyps the last 2 times. Pre-Prep works great for me. I start 2-3 days before by eating only soup and such and drink lots of liquids. By the time for the prep juice, I'm already halfway there. The diaper rash cream trick does work.

It’s not that big a deal, though it is uncomfortable and bothersome to go through the process. And, from reading all the comments, there are some guys on here with delicate exhaust pipes.

My first scope job was in 1980. I had never heard about such a thing, but they sprung it on me at the back end (no pun intended) of a detailed physical. The doctor told me all about it and showed me the machine - air pump for inflation purposes, headlight for seeing in the dim places, joystick for pointing the headlight. And, I didn’t get the prep solution. Back then they gave you a sequence of enemas on site. Mine were administered by a cute blond in a room full of people doing other stuff. And during the scope job, they didn’t put me to sleep. Wide awake during the whole thing, which I think took about a week. So, if anyone is whining about a scope job in today’s hospitals, I’m not listening. Buncha sissies…

It’s not that big a deal. Don’t worry about it. We all make a big deal out of it for fun. You check in, wait a while, they come get you and take you back to the procedure area. You get into your fancy new backless duds and they gave me some baggy warm socks. Then you get an IV, after which you wake up and they tell you the results. The worst part of the whole deal is getting cleaned out from drinking that liquid. Dog sweat, I call it.

Yup, the actual procedure is a cake walk. Enjoy the nap.

Like most of you already mentioned, the prep isn’t terrible as long as you’re prepared for a toilet visit every 20 minutes .

The anesthesia was glorious and did result in a nice nap.

10 years next check up is good, I thought 5 years was the norm, never heard of 10 years, are you under age 50?

I’m 51 , he said 10 years if they find nothing the first time and I have no family history

I’m on the 10 year plan, but that doesn’t mean much, other than you get tested again in 10 years. A friend was on the 10 year plan, and by about year 7 was eaten up inside with cancer.

Had my first one 2 months ago at 48. Dr. said 45 was the new recommended #. 2 polyps removed, follow-up in 3 years. Not bad at all overall, prep was a pain and wandering mind was the worst part.

I'm 46 and don't want to even think about this lol.

Had my first at 30. Certainly not something I expected to need at that age but I was dealing with some awful gastrointestinal issues. All clear thankfully. I always heard the prep was a pain, but when you experience the type of BM's I had on a daily basis, the prep was just like any other day which is sad to say. I just hated the flavor and not eating for so long. Like 806 said, the wandering mind was the worst part. It also didn't help that my gastro doc told me about the rise in colon cancer in men my age.

Can't be too shy about letting someone examine the poot shoot. "Our", and I use that term loosely, Secretary of Defense alluded to that after his prostate surgery debacle recently. A certain segment of our society apparently don't let no one look up there. Not good.

Agreed. A friend of mine from the gym once told me he sees large amounts of blood in the toilet fairly often. I asked if he has had it checked out because that is one of the telltale signs that something is seriously wrong. He replied "hell no, I don't want some guys fingers up my a$$." Pretty strange way to live your life IMO.

Nope, but it can save your life. Totally worth it.

Had my rear end checked yesterday, had a couple of small 2mm benign polyps and a small indenture called Diverticulosis.
Bottom line doc said I was fine C Ya in 5 years.

It's not a big deal. Taste of the prep was the worst part. Will follow the Gatorade advice mentioned above on my next one. I did mine last year and everything was clear, so I'm on the 10-yr plan.
