I’m still new to archery, I’ve been shooting since august. I don’t think my form is that good, is there any YouTube videos yall would recommend to help with my form?

Like shooting a shotgun, there are definate no-no's and things to avoid but largely comes down to personal feel and preference. I shoot a traditional wrist release and anchor my string on the tip of my nose and put my thumb behind my head as a second anchor, both of which are frowned upon, but it feels right for me so I roll with it with no issues. Grip style and placement is also personal preference, do what feels natural as long as the string isn't slapping your arm. I see shooters with all kinds of funky grips when shooting a compound now.

Also, if you shoot at a range, there are probably shop shooters that hang out there and can watch you shoot. We do that for each other at our range. Watching videos will help but nothing has improved my shooting as much as someone watching the process. Once you get your process down, you will be able to better discern your mistakes. In my case it's the twitch of the bow hand or my release not coming straight back both of which cause me to miss left. When I need to reset, I'll put a backstop about 5 yards away, without a target, and draw, close my eyes and move through the shot cycle, concentrating on my correct form. I do this when it's not busy so I can concentrate.

Cam Hanes like TX said is a good start. nockonarchery on youtube has some that are very good as well. A bit long on some but solid information.

Something that can help is do a side video of you shooting and look at it. That can help some after watching videos see what they are doing different if they do not have someone. After watching some of the videos you can see what good form is and compare it to yours.

I’ll add that shooting a compound bow is nothing new. Guys have been doing it successfully for decades now. Don’t listen to the guys who will tout “if you don’t do it this way you are wrong, everyone else before me was doing it the wrong way but I figured out the only right way”.

Shoot everyday. Even if it’s just 5-6 arrows, shoot every day. You will start to develop a natural form. From there things ( should) start to fall into place.

I listened to a podcast with Joel Turner the other day, guy wasn’t wrong in his advice but he was acting like he discovered the pre shot ritual checklist…..amazing anyone killed anything before he invented shot IQ. That and his 16 year old kid is the tiger woods of archery. You will see a lot of this in archery where if it’s “not my way it’s the wrong way”. And that’s not the case.

If you don't mind a road trip and some $ outlay, I'd recommend the instructor that provides private classes at CCR in North Fort Worth, Michael Braden. You can search some of his vids on YouTube. If you want his contact info, send me a PM.

Comes down IMO to stance, grip, draw, anchor, sight, release then follow through. Do it the same every time and consistency will be there even if some of it is not per the experts exact regiment. We are not all the exact same but the basics of the mechanics of shooting work for about everyone.

I have seen good shooters think something is wrong on the bow when they pick it up before season shooting not bad groups but they are off to the side. Watch then draw getting ready for a shot on the range and tell them not to shoot, but look at their grip on the bow where they were holding it like they were holding a rattle snake trying to choke it. Correct them back to relaxed grip and "bow" problem solved. Or watch them shoot and get them to hold the bow out until the arrow hits the target, little things done differently affect the shot.

Shoot often like TX says helps keep you in your shooting form even if it is just a few shots a day or a few shots a week even.
