Can’t seem to find any public land that allow centerfire.

Am I not looking hard enough or did they change something?

Other than drawn hunts, most public land areas in Texas have disallowed centerfire rifles for several years now.

Have you looked at the current National Forest and grassland to see what they allow?

There's plenty of places, you just need to research the rules for each area.

Not a lot of public land in TX compared to other states, high powered rifles are a safety issue with high human population and grown and very little public land, 90+% of TX public land is limited range weapons now. Thats why most people have deer leases in TX.

Sam Houston National forest does. Hunt pigs all year sun up to sunset with AR's Did it for years. Never saw another hunter after deer season. I usually hunted in January February and March tillit started getting warm then I was done. The forests were empty. Shot lots of hog. Afternoons were always best for me.
