Finally got tired of being tired all the time and decided to do something about it. Went thru all the doctors visits, sleep study and all that good stuff. As expected, severe sleep apnea has been diagnosed. I wasnt a big fan of the mask during the sleep study, so what advice do yall have for a newbie to the cpap world? I dont even have my machine yet

I prefer the mask over the nose pillows, it may take some trial and error on your part to find what you like best.

This. There's a learning curve to getting the right equipment. I've switched back and forth between pillows and full face. Keeping everything clean is key. I have two sets of hoses and apparatus that I rotate for easier cleaning. I hate the damned thing but I've never felt better since I've been on it.

What Jimbo1 said about having two sets. I change out mine every Monday morning. Then I wash the used stuff in a scent free/dye free dish soap and then air dry and place in a 2 gallon Ziplock bag till the next Monday. As for the hose, take it outside and sling the water out and then place one end over a small fan to blow thru the tube till dry.
As for wearing it, put it on and get used to it while awake trying different strap adjustments. Lay in bed and turn on each side, back and face down to see how each feels and adjust the straps as needed. Remember, with a mask, the straps don't have to be tight against your face with the machine off, they will tighten up when the air pressure hits the mask. These don't have to be pulled up tight like a respirator, took me awhile to figure this out. The thin edges of the mask are what you want to seal, not the thicker part.
Good luck, I slept in mine for 8 hours and 3 minutes last night. I average about 7 hours a night over the last year.
Good luck.

Yup, all about getting used to it and finding your groove and habits with the equipment. I finally settled on the Phillips Dreamwear nasal pillows as breathing though my mouth dries it out severely. As for cleaning, I began using a SoClean a few years ago without issues- just another option.

I been on the hose since 2011, good advice here. It took me about 6 weeks to get use to the mask. you don't know how tired you feel until you start getting a full night sleep without working to breathe. I go to sleep in about 3-5 minutes after putting on my mask. Most Nites never wake up. Getting used to it is the key. Just stay with it. It will be worth it. Good luck.
